I dunno abt that. Sure he seems less caring than Ptolemy but don't u think he is a bit like Snape? Hides his best? Am I right in assuming that he dismissed Bart becoz he actually liked him (or whatever) ? Not the stupid reason he gave abt him messing things up? Also we seem him being nice to the commoners later. What do u'll think?

Towards the end, yes, he cared.
But before that, his good section was cordoned off, surrounded by fear, hate, inspiration, and ambition.

Well, even after all they had been through in the first book, we don't see him being too considerate to Bart do we? He even risked his life by keeping him on earth for months. Still, yes he ought to care for bart after he changed for the good. Still, no other magician would care for a demon even if they happened to have spent all their life with the respective demon.
