What exactly did Ptomely do for Bartimeaus that made him always assume Ptomely's form?

Have you read the third book?

I guess he trusted Bartimaeus with his life and also Ptolemy made them more equals.

yeah it is to do with trust that Ptolemy had in Barty and therefore respected him and so took his form after he died as a mark of respect
1: Ptolemy treated Bartimeaus as an equal, something magicians don't do
2: He gave Bartimeaus the freedom to travel between Earth and the Other Place at will, without need for summonings and dismissals
3: When death was imminant, he dismissed Bartimeaus, sacrificing what was left of his own life in order to save Bartimaeus.

Ptolemy and Nat did the same thing for Barti. Both of them saved his live because they released him! So mabey BArtimaeus will take his form in the future. That would be nice!

That has been disscused here for a long time. If Barti would take the form of Nat or keep the form of Ptolemy or even combine the two.

I think he'll use all three forms (Nat, Kitty, Ptolemy), depending on his mood.

That reminds me. Exactly how could Barti move between the worlds? Aren't Dismissals a requirement for a djinni to go back, and likewise, summonings a requirement fro a spirit to come from the OP?

Well, usually.

But I think Ptolemy gave him permission. Or he could just ask Ptolemy to go back whenever he wanted.

Yes, that would be my guess.

But is that even possible? How can a spirit dismiss itself, and go to Earth by itself?

Ptolemy presumably had worked out a way to communicate with him. Or maybe he'd just say to Ptolemy "I want a break for a week" and Ptolemy would release him and then summon him again a week later.

Well, as not many people would let their servants run free, we wouldn't know.

I'd let my djiini run free throughout the world, only unlike Ptolemy I'd go with them. It'd be so cool to get to explore everything like that. *sigh* A girl can dream...

So I'll make myself believe it,

Yeah, this is probably it.

Ptolemy really stands out remarkably from other magicians. His selflessness and thirst for knowledge are quite impressive, and his trust in Bartimaeus amazes me.

He treated Bartimaeus as an equal, and wanted to learn from him. He didn't just summon him to do trivial tasks and to protect him. It was a genuine friendship between them.
