The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald (Hey it's good)

Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand (It may not have as much of an effect on me now, but it still pretty influentials for me)

Catch 22 - Joseph Heller (This an outrage!)

Airborne - Kenneth Opal (we gotta have this if we have Star Climber)

Castaway Series (consists of: Castaways of the Flying Dutchman, The Angel's Command, and Voyage of Slaves)- Brian Jacques

Le Petit Prince (the Little Prince) - Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (also an outrage we don't have this)

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini

More later...

Since it's all one series just put The Matt Cruise books. (speaking o' which, I still need to read Star Climber)

While were on the subject of Canadian authors, the Works of Douglas Coupland please.

I've got another, but not sure where to put it. The Gideon trilogy, if anyone's read it?
SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY HOUSE OF LEAVES IS NOT MENTIONED IN THIS THREAD OR ON THAT PAGE.

I nominate it.

I nominate it +10000 times
Okay, added it all. And Nero, I nominated the Kite Runner before.
Airborne and Star Climber are under The Matt Cruise books as they are one series. Let me know if y'all see any other book which ought to be a part of a series.
And, now that a lot of people are writing the author's name along with the name of the book, I'm wondering whether I should add them to all books. Too much work though. But I think it would be better to have it.
Okay, I wrote the authors. I googled all the books too and saw that quite a few books were part of a series. So I changed it accordingly. One book was even named wrong.
And, I removed two:
Paradise Lost – John Milton
Divine Comedy - Dante Alighieri
These two are poems.
And Canterbury Tales is a frame story. I think frame stories are okay, right?
And GBM, Google tells me the author of The Colour Purple is Alice Walker.
Also, if you want to nominate all the books of one author, you write "The Works of -". There are three such in the above list.

And some rules to follow before nominating a book:
1) Check the list first to see if the book isn't already mentioned.
2) Do not mention a single book in a series but the whole series.
3) Write the name of the author too. Like, there are three Shades of Gray novels written by three different authors. So please mention the author (GBM did, so no problem).
4) Novels, series, comics, novellas and frame stories would do. If you want to add anything else, just mention what it is and we can get a consensus and decide if it will do.

We can either number the new books separately or put it on the list. I think the latter is better. After we reach a 100, Nero could put it in his first post. Or he could put it up even now and edit it whenever a new book is added. And then we can decide the order.
And, was thinking, someone could start this top 100 with songs too. Would be cool to have a Bartiforums Top 100 books and songs.

And finally, Wikipedia says Doctor Who is a novella series. Are they as good as the shows? If so, I could add them to the list.

You have both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien in that list.

The Doctor Who books are nothing like as good as the shows.

Changed it. And no DW. One of the rare books which are worse than their TV adaptions, I suppose.

The books are the adaptation, not the TV series.

*Facepalm*. I thought it was the opposite.

Rules and list on OP. List will go all the way up to 120 (maybe 150). Then we will remove 20(50), and then discuss the positions.

I'm adding:

The Chronicles of Prydain - Lloyd Alexander

Bridge to Terabithia - Katherine Paterson

Jacob Have I Loved - Katherine Paterson

The Giver - Lois Lowry

Tuck Everlasting - Natalie Babbitt

But I know that I'm still missing a HUGE one...
Eh, I'd just keep going. Or else we're just going to have huge fights on what should be in and what should be out.

For example, I hated Tuck Everlasting... :P

Em, why?
I don't know, I just remember not finding it all that interesting.

Maybe, as you are undoubtedly more mature and understanding, you should reread it...

Haha.

I think, finally, the books which most people have read and liked would end up in the list. Just one person having read a book and saying it is good doesn't make sense. And obviously, since there won't be 100 books read by a big number, we all can then take chances and put our favourites one by one.

What is up with Gladstone these days?

Nero, you didn't add DC's choice?

I'm not even going to read the four pages, looks like it's a list based on when the titles are submitted.

I believe both Hitchhikers and Dune should be expanded to the entire series (as written by the original author). Or, at least, for Adams. Dune was the best of the series, and I don't mind too much if it stand alone.

Red Storm Rising, Tom Clancy. Accurate were it not for little Special Forces action. Limited nowadays, without that little cold war thing, but hey, excellent book nonetheless.

And, to no surprise to anybody, I submit Anthem, The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged.

Insomnia or The Stand, by Stephen King.

And, fiction or nonfiction, shouldn't the bible get honorable mention?
