The 2009 Film

Amulet Of Samarkand

Hmm. I'll concede the point since what you guys say does make overwhelming since...and my experience with "adults" and over who read is pretty limited given my fairly sheltered life up till now. Maybe college will help fix that, eh?

I've actually never in my entire life met an older person who likes to read, come to think of it. 0_o and I have a family I know well over two hundred people.
I could be all wrong though. My life is pretty sheltered too and it is just basically all my relatives and friends and people who I've heard of from others that I take into account here.

For me, it depends what the forum is about.

Such as:

Books, yes teens usually register more.

Well, it looks like all anyone can draw from is experience here, so any conclusions come to are relative? XD This is fun.

Good points all around with animation, but I thought the Death Note live action was... passable.
Er.
Bearable.
Dragonball shall henceforth never be uttered, likewise with Shamallamadingdong's Avatar.

I always had in my mind (and a crappy spec script I wrote at, fourteen, I think) a voiceover, maybe with fourth-wall-looks style of movie.
And budget doesn't necessarily define effects - Despicable Me was great, and done cheap too.

This is true. District 9 had an infinitesimal budget (comparatively) and that did fantastic--and looked fantastic.

The Death Note live action? I was laughing my ass off every time I saw Ryuk. XD

UGH. Stick a fork in Shamaylan. Mary and Joseph, I hope his career is over. >< STOP GIVING THAT GUY MONEY, SUITS!!!! I swear, the man didn't even watch the cartoon. Who the heck is "Uung" supposed to be? And Soeka? Yeah, no. ><

for eveyone who's arguing on the age group aimed at the barti books. I saw it in the adult section of WHSmiths the other week. (It only now occurs to me that i only saw the Golems eye and so it might have just been put there ^^;. I hope not though).

anyway, Honestly. I love animation as I'm an illustrator but honestly I think if it was done in animation It would kill it. It surprised me because i was thinking Artemis fowl would be a better animation when i heard they were making a movie out of that.

I dunno, it just seems like the wrong sort of book, animation (thats not manga) is almost solely aimed at children and therefore the movie would be aimed at children and i don't see that with the barti books. They're more like family books that anyone can read.

Plus I I'd like to see the big special effects used with proper light and stuff to really make the best of all johnathan strouds amazing description and writing skills. does that makes sense?

I'd love for the movie to be live action with some really good CGI, but as people have already said, it probably will depend a lot on the budget of the film.

Really? I can't imagine the idea of Artemis Fowl as animation at all! I think live action might be better able to get the really chilling, evil-genius-at-11 side of Artemis on screen.
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.

I just think its very slapstick funny and, dare i say it, aimed at the audience its for.

i supposed i'm really relating it to the barti books too much. barti's more mature with its witty sarcasm and title character thats has the personality of an adult and also the fact that he has no real age to begin with, and it does say that he's old in relation to qeezle.

It feels like the story of a child told by an adult.

I dunno the book just seems too age generic to be a kids film and its just the fact that the artemis fowl series seems alot more childish and simple compared to it.

(and theres always the problem of holly's facial structure, with her cheek bones and striking features. I just think a real live actor would kill her traditional 'pixie' looking face because its very rare anyone has that perfect pixie face.)

and you see 'chilling-evil-genius' is not the thing you think of when you think of the AF books as a whole.

i guess i really just compare it to barti too much.
to addresss many discussions:

1. i see the film as live action all the way. having to do so many special effects would in no way ruin it. just look at the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe! that movie was fantastic, and they had to do plenty of special effects.

2. I see the books in the young adult section more. same with heroes of the valley, which i have recently started to read.

3. hmmm i know there was one more thing. i'll edit this momentarily! (knowing me, it was probably the most recent discussion)

EDIT: well. i guess there wasn't anything else i wanted to address. hmph.

I said exactly the opposite, :P .

Oh dear...it pains me to read about the movies waiting for distribution, knowing that in the future one of them might have been Barti. :(

Also, welcome Ptolemaeus! :cookie?: :cookie:

Thanks for the cookies :mouth:

So what happened with the film rights when Miramax closed? Did they go back to Jonathan S. or something? (Maybe to Disney?)

PS: I'm german, so please excuse me if my English skills are too bad. :$
Your English is fine.
As to the movie, I doubt anyone in the film industry considered it seriously.
