The 2009 Film

Amulet Of Samarkand
When I read the parts of the book narrated by Bartimaeus, the voice I hear in my head is always that of David Sedaris. I know his slight North Carolina twang is a little off for a series based in London, but who knows what accent prevails in the Other Place? In any case, he's got Barti's sarcasm down perfectly. I heartily wish that Miramax would cast him for the voiceovers.

hmm i was in the back of my mind thinking what would happen in a film of the trilogy while i was reading, and i often would come to the conclusion that it just wouldn't work. I mean, come on, there would be no footnotes! And WHAT IS BARTIMAEUS WITH NO FOOTNOTES?

That's not Bartimaeus.

^So true.
It'll be interesting to see how they overcome that problem in the movie.

Voiceover narration?
It's not really looking like there's going to be a movie; but, dangit, I'm still hoping!

Yeah, hope is all we have left....well, that and the Ring of Solomon to keep us occupied for a while. xD

Ehh. I'd actually rather see it animated than live action. I mean, granted, you still have your narration issues (footnote problems), but if done right, I think it might translate better to that medium. The acting is allowed to be over-the-top (when I say this, I mean comparatively: the expressions and actions in animation are more exaggerated in animation than they are in live action just by the nature of the art) and we might be able to get more of Barty's attitude--and Nat's reactions, etc. But more importantly, there's the whole transformation and shape shifting and just plain special-effects stuff that goes on. In animation its less likely to look retarded, whereas with live action, you're limited to your effects budget.

Welcome as well, Saiph!
I don't want a film. And I hate live-action. Look at what they did to Dragon Ball -and Death Note. Animation would look better, but it would have to be anime style -which I love, :D . Why? Well, It's just my opinion, but I don't think 3D or classic Disney animation would fit the Bartimaeus Trilogy.

PS: 333 Posts. Yay. Awesome.

I really want it to be live action. As harder as it'll be, I don't want the script, directing, acting or visuals to be crappy, it would be better than animated. Plus I never did see Bartimaeus as animation - for me, that would ruin the books.

Thank you for the welcome. :)
I agree with Nero - live action all the way. Although this is mostly due to the fact that I just can't picture an AnimeBart, I find myself simply unable to take animated movies seriously.

Well, "anime" as in Japanese animation would be sort of annoying if applied to Barty. I think aiReY-chan is right in that classic Disney-style could work. -shrug-

You're unable to take animated movies seriously? That's a tragedy. There are plenty of animated movies that aren't nessecarily for children, in the same manner that Bartimaeus is a book generally read by children--but just as, if not more enjoyed by an older audience.
BT is for TEENS!!!

Agree. Animation is bad idea as it would make the whole thing seem more like fiction than reality.

I agree that there are many great animated movies, and they are better than certain live action movies.

But I really don't want to see BT in animation. The whole idea of BT is that in real life you can see what seems to be a crow turn into a human...

I have to agree with the no-to-animation brigade. I don't think an animated film could properly convey the darkness and grit of their London; it risks changing the tone too far towards comedy.

Yeah, it could possibly damage the tone of the books. But of course, this is all speculation at best, seeing as a movie will probably not be made at this point.

And SevenPentacles...correct me if I'm wrong, but I usually see the Bartimaeus Trilogy in the "kids" section, or suggested on the Barnes and Noble/Borders website as ideal for 9-12...certainly not teens. This is obviously the folly of the marketers, as Mr. Stroud has stated he doesn't write for a particular audience, and our presence on these boards indicate that its more largely enjoyed by teenagers...

I don't disagree with your point, but you can't use the membership of this board as an argument that more teenagers read it, because teenagers are more likely to register on internet forums in the first place.

I was 13 when I first got into forum book disscusions

About the films - It would be nice to have both =) I would love a really high quality art anime version. But that would probably be just as hard to make as a well done live action. I never feel as in touch with movies anyway. Hopefully once RoS comes out the rights owners will feel confident enough to give a good budget to the movie. What about a RoS movie? Woa getting ahead of myself here XD if the plot is epic enough it will probably happen.
Yeah, teenagers are way more likely to register on internet forums. Plus, seeing that fantasy books nearly always are put under "children" section, adults don't read them and many seem to think these books are only meant for children. Some think fantasy is beneath them. Plus, most adults never seem to have the time or have just given up reading altogether.
In my view, middle-aged adults seldom read. However, old aged people (mainly those who have retired) read loads of books due to availability of time and boredom. And, if you introduce them to fantasy and get them convinced, they read and enjoy those books too. This has been my observation.
My grandfather was the biggest example. I got him to read Artemis Fowl, Inheritance and Harry Potter. He loved the first two, but didn't like HP one bit. I had just introduced him to Bartimaeus Trilogy, but just around then he got a stroke and died.
