There's a strong cinematic sensibility to the book(s), I think. Sometimes it annoyed me a little, ie. those frequent cuts from first to third to first person in the Barti-chapters (thought it was an editing problem before I realized it was going to be a continuing stylistic device.) But still, a cinematic sensibility.
This is one trilogy where, as I read it, I thought to myself, "I would LOVE to see this as a movie." Whether it would/will actually be adapted well is another matter, but it *feels* like it could.
Obviously no footnotes, though, which begs the question: what kind of meta fourth-wall device might be employed in their place?
