Yeah, read em...Unfinished tales hurt my head a bit. Its hard to remember all of the names, who did what whos dead and who isnt born yet relative to the time period, lol.

All Tolkien books are good by me.

Back to the Da Vinci Code thing...I think the church is overreacting a bit now, but you can see their point. The main problem I have with it is it lies, somewhat.

Would type more but I'm going out of town until tomorrow and we're leaving right now.

I've read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, the Silmarillion, and the Unfinished Tales (in that order). All good, even if the Silmarillion and the Tales are a little confusing at times.

The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction! You can't lie when you're not claiming it's true, never mind when it's obviously fiction. It's hardly the book's fault that so many people believe it.

I read it backwards. Starting with Lotr all the way up to the Silmarillion. And all I learned was that Galadriel was really old.

Actually the church hasn't said anything about it because it's fiction. It's the people who are overeacting.

Ok, here's what I mean about it lying it has nothing to do with the Christianity thing:

On page one of the book bothered me: it says all ‘all descriptions of artwork, architecture, documents and secret rituals in this novel are accurate’. Well, sadly that's a lie. The glass pyramid isn't made out off 666 panes of glass, it's 673. And Madonna of the Rocks isn't painted on canvas, but wood. Not to mention other historical inaccuraces, such as the pentacle almost being used for the Olympic games. The sign we use today wasn't even used until the the early 1990s. While I know it's fiction the first page seems to claim something the book isn't.

Has anyone read the Abhorsen Trilogy?

The way Dan writes is really interesting. His entire goal almost is to make you believe it. If someone came up to you and told you the basic story, you'd think they're nuts, but he tells it very convincingly. It's like he uses half-truths to make you think they're true.

That's pretty much the excat way he does it.

I enjoyed the book as a story, but historically it's mush. And page one lies.

I can't get over page one.

It says somewhere that the book is fiction.

Yes, I know.

But still can't get over page one.

Did anyone notice Teabing is an anagram of one of the author's of Holy Blood, Holy Grail's last names? And Leigh is one of the author's first?

I thought it was funny.

A few minor inaccuracies. He's an author, not a historian. It isn't lying, because tiny problems like that would have been fixed if he'd known. It's not like what the painting is done on is of vital importance to the story.

From the reviews of the film I've read, it's too long and a bit boring. Apparently the story doesn't translate well to a film.

Yes, I know. But it still bugs me a bit.

What did you guys expect it to be like on film? Or even buy looking at the trailer?

I read a lot on Rotten Tomatoes and it didn't seem very good. Ian McKellan seemed to be recognized as doing a good job, however.

I like him. He's a really good actor. And most books (with the exception of Lotr and Ella Enchanted in my opinion) get ruined when they become movies. Like HP.

Based on my own opinion of the book and the reviews I've heard, it just won't work as a film. Missing all the important points.
I heard they're doing Angels and Demons next, though, which might work a bit better.

I thought Angels and Demons was better than Da Vinci Code myself.

I don't like Dan Brown, 'cause all his characters seem like the same to me. And the books are so predictable. I finally found my copy of Deception Point, and its so similar to Digital Fortress, it's not funny.

And how come there's no Fast edit button on here?

Edit: It's back...

Yes, the Dan Brown books are a little repetetive. They were good enough books, but not multiple-reread worthy.

There should be a quick edit button.
