It's vastly more complex than the Nolan chart (which I've also seen). I see no evidence that the Political Compass is a rip-off - they seem like pretty logical axes to me.
I've heard the other criticisms before, too. There's a possibility they might have some truth; it's hard to tell. I know people who've scored in most areas on the chart, though. Either way, if you'd like to find a better alternative, be my guest, but it's the best I've found.

I'm going to assume you're talking about Iran.. I don't think the government's going to get away with it that easily. They've openly admitted more ballots were cast than eligible voters in 50 (out of a few hundred) cities!

Yes, Ahmedinejad has got maximum support from the rural masses. And they make up a vast percentage. My guess is Ahmedinejad did win, but not by the extent projected. A smaller margin. But controlling the media & preventing people from using their cellphones (like he did in the beginning) are BIG mistakes.

There's no "evidence" but how did they manage to count like a million papers in a few hours? It took longer in past elections with a lower turnout. And also they immediately declared the winner, Iranian law requires you to wait 3 days for protest.

And then there's the fact that they responded to peaceful protest with violence. Whether he one fairly or not, that's not exactly democratic and completely unacceptable.

Ahmadinejad is a hardliner, he would respond to peaceful protests in violent ways. He
doesn't deserve to win, but if the Iranians have really voted for him, there's nothing one can do. Mightbe he has got some good virtues which have escaped my notice. Why on earth would he then get majority votes?
