Iran may have many war veterans, but they surely don't make up the majority.

The Rural Poor voted for him and the Extreme Right like him as well. Not many people can do that.
Shame of the Super Son
The rural poor voted for him because he might have done something for them (like hand over MONEY). Not because they are right extremists like him. Whoever courts their needs, get their votes. They are so practical.

The causes are irrelevant. I meant that the Poor usually vote for the Socialist, who the Righties despise.
Shame of the Super Son
Righties could behave as socialists too. No party in a country which has majority of poor people can come to power, until & unless they do something for the poor.

If Right wingers go socialists, then their called centrist.
Shame of the Super Son
That's true, but in poor countries Righties have to do something for the poor or they will perish in the next elections. They could be far more market-friendly & have ultra nationalist views, but they can't ignore the poor. So, Right definition can vary from country to country.

Since nobody seems to have read this, I'll repeat myself.

The Guardian Council has admitted that in 50 cities there were more votes registered than eligible voters (the accusation was made that this was the case in several hundred, to which they responded "no it's not, it's only in these ones!"). Doesn't take a genius to spot that this means a) massive, institutional fraud and b) they probably messed with the totals in other places too, it's just they didn't overrun the number of eligible voters. Source

There is also some statistical evidence that, while not directly proving fraud, is certainly winking and nudging you. Exhibit A, Exhibit B. There are a few other posts on the site talking about other, less convincing statistical anomalies.

Also, fun fact: "You have probably heard it asserted that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad principal strength is in rural areas, whereas Mir-Hossein Mousavi did relatively better in Iran's cities. However, it is not clear that this is true. Moreover, in 2005, it is demonstrably false. On the contrary, Ahmadinejad did much better in urban areas in that election."

The funny part is that the Americans and Israelis benifit greatly from this. Mousavi or Ahmadnijad, same difference really. The Supreme Leader has veto on both.
Shame of the Super Son
The ignorant media persons who write articles making many presumptions irk me no end. Your post just validates that. Why do I believe all that? I ought to have had enough experience from all the wrong conjectures made during the elections here.

How much power does the Supreme Leader really have?

Besides the veto, don't know. But he's called the 'Supreme Leader'. And he is supposed to speak with the Voice of God. So, alot of power, I would say.
Shame of the Super Son
Then maybe people should be more concerned about him than who wins the election?

Edit: What do y'all think about this?

Not surprising.
In a place where the ballots are counted via paper, an early victory is always a little suspicious.
'course, I thought It was fluffed from the beginning, so yeah...

Ahmadinejad might have won though. By a narrow margin, but nevertheless he has a huge support base. I thought it was the rural base, but looks like it's the urban.

You love Ottawa politics? Is it that good (its just that I have never heard people complimenting government politics ever)?
I went to a 'meet your MP' session & it was so discouraging (could be because everyone wanted the meeting to be carried out in different languages & in the end no one really seemed to have understood anything. Plus the politicians made such tall claims & gave such long speeches).
I think Nero has got it right. When young, everyone is a liberal but when they grow up they become conservatives. They worry about protecting their culture, faith, legacy...everything. I think they are afraid the younger generation would become too modern & forget their rich heritage (or whatever). But sometimes their line of thought makes sense too.
Meh, sarcasm. Really, I find politics depressing.
I wish I were a cat-dragon
I don't. It's fun when you are involved but just watching the politicians run a country could be pretty depressing. But if you happen to pay a lot of attention to what they do & read the views of professionals, then you get to form an opinion of everything & it's nice to think it over.

I learned today that the mayor of DC was stalking a chick.
Nevermind the mayoral duties he ignored, he was re-elected after being caught in a crack cocaine sting.

So it happens everywhere on earth. People aren't stupid yet I sometimes wonder how they can vote for a certain person. I guess I see things from only one point of view.

I doubt he's still addicted, if he was able to get elected 2 years after. People with crack problems tend to give up life just to get the drugs. He could have gone to rehab like Cupcake Brown, author of New York Times bestseller: A Piece of Cake, a memoir which describes her life, beginning with the death of her mother when she was 11, her abusive foster homes, her life on the street with gangs. *plug plug* She never high school, started learning math with 1+1 in college, but managed to graduate college magna cum-laude and now has a UK book tour *yay*

Also: Stephen Harper isn't as pimp as Berlusconi, he brought a former topless model. But the effort he's putting in to represent us properly is admirable.
