Do you have any better ideas? The economy is a vast and horrendously complex system and the collapse clearly demonstrates we don't really have any idea how it works (classical economists, after all, were all smugly confident in their theories which demonstrated how we'd be in a rising economy forever..).

Jon Stewart, was talking about decreasing income taxes and having a few no tax shopping days included in the package. He got a few economists on his show who approve it, but it would never happen, because the gov't needs money too much right now or at least that's what everyone (the obama-maniacs) insisted.=[

I just wish they would cut down on some of the more long term spending plans

I agree completely there is little which can be done, but passing stimulus packages isn't the only solution. I know Obama is talking about house loans & placing a cap on the salary of company executives-all great ideas. But he isn't doing as much to get people to spend again. I think if people start spending as usual again, the economic crisis would be dealt faster with, then passing stimulus packages. Take China's example. Instead of paying employees with just money, they are giving them shopping coupons too. So people are forced to use it & it contributes to their economy. But then again, it wouldn't be fair to compare US & China. It took Obama so long to pass the $787 billion (or whatever) package. The above would be nigh impossible. So yeah, I suppose Obama is doing as much as he could, but the very fact of him being Obama, made me expect something sui generis.

Just because he's Obama doesn't mean he can wave his magic wand and make everything better I'm afraid; even if he could come up with some brilliant plan everyone else has to agree it'll work too.
The stimulus package isn't all he's doing, incidentally; he's returning taxation rates closer to what they were during the Clinton administration, which was hugely successful on the economy, compared to Dubya's policy of cutting tax rates for the people with a significant amount of money to pay in taxes..

I suppose so. I think I was just caught up in the Obama hype & expected things to start changing the moment he took over. Really unreasonable of me. It's a pity he had to take charge directly after Dubya (I like this name better :D ). All his efforts would go towards correcting the mistakes & we might see fewer of his own ideas actually implemented. Hope he gets a 2nd term. Who do you think will contest from the Republicans? Palin or Bobby Jindal, I think.
