Nathaniel in the Third Book.

Ptolemy's Gate
does anyone here actually think Nat's death isn't final?

the ending was fab, i agree with you all, i think the fact that he practically dies on the last page makes a massive effect. Stroud's writing is so good that i think he could have finished with anything and still it would have been the best ending possible.

i hope more books are made (i've said this before i'm sure....) !!!!!!

does anyone else wish Kitty and Nat could have been together??? (or am i just being sad........?)

one last thing, the final paragraph, i wasn't completely sure myself, (because i was reading it quickly with the tension- and i think i understood it wrong) does Barti mean that he wanted to say something horrible to Nat, or something nice?

thanks a lot :D

Barti wanted to say something nasty on the subject of Nate saving him from death and sacrificing himself, I believe.

No, Bartimaeus was ever the survivor.

The same happened when Ptolemy released Bart too, remember.

I don't think Bartimaeus wanted to say anything mean about Nathaniel. I think was comparing him to Ptolemy.

And though I don't really get into book shipping I'm not so sure if Nathaniel had survived it would have worked out with Kitty. But if it had been a happy ending it would have, of course.

True, but possibly he wanted to say something mean about Nathaniel dismissing him while he would be killed. Eh, my opinion

Barti was comparing Nate to Ptolemy. He was annoyed when Ptolemy dismissed him just before the enemy spirits got there, so he'd be equally annoyed at Nate dismissing him in similar circumstances.

I agree, Sentynel, which means I agree with you too, Gladstone.

It was probably a combination of both - he liked Nate enough to be annoyed at Nate sacrificing himself and dismissing Barti.

I'm not so sure.

I mean, Bartimaeus was rather sad about Ptolemy, not annoyed. And he didn't want to die so why would he be annoyed?

I quote Ptolemy's Gate:
Ptolemy's Gate wrote:'I can't get out, but you can.'
'With this wing? You must be- Ah... I see.' The lion shook its head. 'Not a chance.'
...
...
I saw Ptolemy grinning lopsidedly at me, one hand raised.
I reached towards him. 'Don't-!'
He snapped his fingers, spoke the dismissal words.
...
Furiously, against my will, I accepted Ptolemy's last gift.
I rest my case.

Barti must have been a little annoyed that because Nat died, he gets more credit. But I still think he appreciated it. Do you think he's going to start wearing Nat's appearance?

Don't forget Kitty...she visited him in the Other Place as well. Barti could be a mutant

Yes. I did. Not neccesarily the teddy bears bit, but overall it was better.

Yes, but I didn't think that was annoyance. I thought it was that Bart loved Ptolemy so much he wanted to defend him to the very end.
