Major spoilers in this topic in general so if you've stumbled in here without reading the third book then you might want to stumble back out. :D
I finished reading the third book a few days ago, and I've been thinking about it.
What would the effect have been if Nathaniel hadn't died? Would the book still have left an impression in the reader's mind, or would it have been dismissed as "another good book" and put aside on the shelf to read in another six months?
I sort of think that the implied death of the main character (Note the word "implied", commercialism and money is always ready for another book) made the series end rather nicely. Stroud is one of the best character killing authors I've ever seen and he did a very good job.
Would you have liked the book more if he lived? I would have. But the death did bring good for the trilogy, I guess.
Topic open for discussion.
Note: I can't highlight text in this forum. The text boxes are also really awkward, you can't click in them, you have to press tab and stuff. Is it just my computer or is it a glitch?
