Yeah but it slowed down his research.

I voted for Ptolemy, because he embarassed the heck out of that pharoah in Ptolemy's Gate.

Anyway, I don't think that it was necessarily Ptolemy's charity that stopped him from finishing his research. I thought that it was the whole 'being killed by assassins' thing that messed with him. Not only that, I thought that he had written some books that got ignored.
Ptolemy Is sooo much better then Nathaniel. Ptolemy's kind, cares for others, does all he can to treat EVERYONE equally. That means djinn, too. All Nathaniel cared/cares about was power. Ptolemy didn't care about that at all. Ptolemy wins, hands down.

Um, Nat cares about people too. He just forgot it for a few years. He sacerficed everything for the people of London, is brave, has common sense, is smart, and is a more "real" character.

Ptolemy was pretty cool, but Nat kicks his butt.

I voted for Ptolemy. Mostly because he didn't become disillusioned in a search for power and lose his conscience. (Even if in Nat's case it was only temporary.) True he was a bit obsessed with his reasearch, but a lot of people, even nowadays tend to do that so...

Not to worry fangirls, I don't hate Nat, I like him too... Just not the way you (or one of my friends who shall remain nameless) do. :D

Ok, people, I'm not a fangirl.

He reminds me of myself a lot, and he deserves defending because a lot of people flam him.

Don't worry Ianna, I believe you're not a fangirl. If you were, whenever you saw the name "Nat" you'd probably start drooling, then type a lot of "I Love Nat!" propoganda. (Like a certain friend of mine!)

Thank-you.

One of you people has a brain. Unlike some Delusional shippers.

That's right, delusional.

Nathaniel. He achieves a level of union with Bartimeaus Ptolemy never did.

Yay Nathaniel!

However, though Nat totally rocks, I still think that Ptolemy and Bartimaeus's relationship was more fullfilled somehow...

When forced by Kitty in order to save the world. Neither were particularly happy about it. Ptolemy voluntarily crossed to Barti's world. That's a far greater sacrifice for him.

Agreed.

Though they got to know each other better. And Nat did free Bartimaues...

And so did Ptolemy. He was bad and redeemed himself at the end. Ptolemy was good all the way through.

It took Nat an awful long time to discover that djinn weren't just emotionless slaves. And besides, if they'd known a magician and spirit could share a body in Ptolemy's time I'm sure they would've tried it. I still think that Barti had a stronger bond with Ptolemy then he did Nat.

Ptolemy wasn't brainwashed by magicians like Nat, was he? Those were different times. Yes, Nathaniel is forced, but when he's joined with Barti, he understands the suffering spirits go through by being kept on Earth.

Nat didn't truely understand or care until the end.

And it doesn't matter if Ptolemy wasn't brainwashed. He was still kinder to Barti than Nat, and that's all Barti is going to care about. Ptolemy had a closer relationship and always will. End of story.

Which is all that matters.

His efforts were fine, to be sure, but in the end, who was reading whose's mind and was one with Bartimaeus?
