Nat or Ptolemy

General Discussion

Who's better (in character)

Ptolemy
Nathaniel
I'd say Ptolemy.

In character, I'd say that Ptolemy is a more decent person, and obviously Barti respects him more.

Nat's okay, but he very disillusioned by power in the beginning.

But John's the coolest overall.
i prefer Ptol, but whatever. I've actually seriously considered getting an egyptian haircut b/c of him, and changing my name. Though I have insisted that family members refer to me as, "John Mandrake".

Really? Do they actually do it...or look at you wierd and run away?

And would egyptian haircut mean, bald except for 1 braid?
Ptolemy gmv. He's such an interesting character. I wish they'd make a book about him.

That's exactly right, luc. And I'm the only person who's not a member of this site who's read it, so no, they don't run away. :magic:

Ahem. Well, I voted for Ptolemy. I just liked Ptolemy. But Nathaniel rocks!

Ptolemy was cool, but I knew Nat for more of the books so I voted him.

The Ancient Egyptians rocked in terms in style, so I say go for it, if your head isn't oddly shaped. Umm..on topic: for me John was just N's public persona, so I think it's odd for there to be a clear separation between the two. John is def more attractive. Ptolemy's pretty bland to me, I mean, he's just a nice, studious guy..
Nothing to see here, move along.

To me, it's obvious that Ptolemy is more scrupulous than Nathaniel. Nathaniel's pretty cool by the end of PG, though.

I say Nat. Ptolemy was more concerned with research than doing things for others.

I could say the same for Nat at the begining,

He was researching though, just seeking revenge.

Nat's interesting because he's twisted between morals and himself. I mean, we all can understand someone with similar morals to us, but not when they are completely different.

Au contraire. Didn't he stop his researching to send Bartimaeus out to help that lady with the locusts? Afterwards, he also spent some of his time everyday to help people with their problems.

Only because there were legions of people outside his door, and being a nice person, he couldn't exactly ignore them.

He was a little too nice. If he hadn't helped all those people, he could have finished more books and helped spirits and humans to come to some kind of comprimise.
Apparently J.R.R. Tolkien had problems compiling the Silmarillion because fans kept knocking on his door til he moved...

No, he himself continued his research.
