Since the Other Place is all one, and you take the energy from it to make a spirit (meaning, you take the energy from some spirits), perhaps the languages they know are the ones each spirit that took part in its formation know.

thats what i thought. also, there wouldnt be another barti because you could just make up a new name if you ran out of existing ones!

I wish the spirit could pick their own name.

I doubt it. A lot of names they use are neutral. I do suppose, however, that name is one of the factors a spirit uses to determine its preferred gender.
