Horrible, horrible...
However, this is one of the few events China has released openly; all the previous ones, such as the 1976 Tangshan earthquake have been attempted to be hidden. The Olympics kinda convinced them to temporarily change their colours.

Well then.

I recently heard of the cease-fire between extremist splinter groups and the Shiites. Or was it the Iraqi Government?

The U.S. might be out by next January?

Cease fire? The government and the Mahdi army just fought to a stalemate a few months ago.

Really? That would be counterproductive. The Americans can still win, logistically they can stay there for eternity and a day.

There's no way, in this age of satellites and widespread internet access, that they could have hidden any of the details. Better to appear honest about it.

Besides, it's a friggin' 7.9 earthquake, felt by the entire region.

Couple thousand years back, people would've thought the gods were angyry, but nooo, not anymore...

"The Argument goes somthing like this: 'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.'
'But,' says Man, 'the Babel fish is a dead giveaway, isn't it? It could not have evoled by chance. It proves you exists, so by your own argument, you don't. QED'
'O dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promtly vanishes in a puff of logic.
'Oh, that was easy,' says Man, and for an encore goes on to prove that black is white and get himself killed at the next Zebra crossing."

I could reply a good deal to that, but I'll save it, it's not for this forum...
The Mayan's calender ends, December 21st, 2012.
They've been correct about nearly everything before then, so people take it seriously...

And yes, right at the beginning, when Arthur gets the fish in his ear...
"'Nice guy. I wish I had a daughter so I could forbid her to marry him.'
'Don't worry,' said Ford, 'They have about as much sex appeal as a car accident.'"

As for the Earthquake, the official toll's up to 14,866, while others are reports numbers in excess of 19,000...

The Jaipur bombings consisted of eight bombs, one of which was defused.
They've killed 67 and injured at least 216 people...

The Aforementioned '76 quake killed at least a quarter million...

With all due respect to the victims of these attacks and natural disasters, the total number of people killed by that earthquake is a staggering 0.00027% of the world's population. It's not the end of the world yet, not by a long way (and technically, that'd only be the end of the human race. The Earth will carry on quite happily without us for approximately another five billion years, excepting the extremely unlikely possibilities that a similarly sized object hits it or it suffers total existence failure).

America's fortunes have bounced up and down regularly over the years, as have most Western nations. They're not finished yet. Though if they elect McCain they might be well on the way..

Just because it ends that day doesn't mean the "world" will end. Does it actually say the human race will end, or does it just merely not go further? Maybe they got tired of making the calendar... I'm sure it gets rather tiring after awhile...

Also, Nostrodamus predicted it, and he was on the other side of the world, in no contact with the Mayan race. And the Chinese fortune telling game thing predicted it to.

Not saying I'm a believer, just adding to the drama.

Four years left! Muhahahaa!
But if we do survive: International Human Species Day.
