*wonderment* where do you get all of your Pace gifs?
Well they shut it down... then they brought it back... then they made two films. Said two films were released at the same time as two of the biggest films of the decade/all time (PatF with Avatar, Winnie with Deathly Hallows 2), despite the fact that did not work with the film Bolt (released the same day as Twilight). Marketing department decides that it is because the films were in 2D (I suspect there is more to this, neither film was marketed as much as Disney's recent 3D films). Planned 2D project based on Terry Pratchett's Mort is scrapped for unknown rights-related reasons (I am still sad about this, for the record), several prominent 2D animators leave the studio, also for unknown reasons.
Then back in the spring of this year, the entire 2D department was basically gutted. The project Moana, due out 2018, will supposedly be animated using something along the lines of the 2D/3D hybrid technique they used for Paperman (which is a fabulous short film, btw), but other than indie artsy projects, 2D feature animation as a medium is pretty much dead for the moment.
