It has been known for movies to be hilariously misrepresented by their trailers in order to seem like something some exec thinks will get more viewers.

Honestly, though, I'm not hopeful.

Yeah...

On the other hand, it is a trilogy, so maybe they're going to include the other stories... Oh well, they can't take the book from me.

Heh, I only watched it for the first time last year. I love that movie. And I was surprised by how much I liked Spiderman (even if this one's still mildly creepy. Having a picture of a girl you've barely talked to as your desktop background? Really?).

No, he's actually a "creative consultant"

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/mo ... -star-wars

It was on the front page of the Toronto Star, which says a lot about their priorities
Wow, never thought I'd see the day when the LFPress was classier than the Star. Then again, our mayor's under investigation by the RCMP, so I guess they had other priorities.

Even if Lucas isn't involved, I'm getting so tired of seeing same four or so sci-fi frachises over and over. I loved the original trilogy, but could never bring myself to care about anything beyond that. Can't they try something new for a change instead of rehashing the same old stuff? (there seems to be a theme to most of my movie posts, haha)

However, this is great.
RCB wrote:OKAY CLOUD ATLAS WAS AMAZING ALSO HAS ANYONE SEEN WRECK-IT RALPH I HEARD IT WAS GOOD
Nope, but my linguistic anthropology teacher wants us to read an article about the movie. :D Long story.

And you all have no idea how long I've been waiting for Wreck-It Ralph. XD Also, speaking as someone who's seen a grand total of one James Bond movie, Skyfall looks really cool.

Okay, so this was a long, mostly pointless post, but I've just finished two midterms and I want to chill, okay. :P

New stuff is a risk. It might get a lot of interest, it might get a bit of interest, or it might be a total flop. Beating the dead horse once more, however, is always going to attract at least a reasonable degree of interest from fans of the franchise so far, even if it sucks. So it's no surprise really that the big studios keep rehashing things.

The good news is that as the tools to fund, make and distribute movies get more accessible to a wider range of people, we're going to see more indie films doing creative and interesting things, and while the vast majority of them will probably suck, there'll be some really good stuff created.

I hope that one is Casino Royale.

Yes. This or Dr. No.
Also I realize that there is a TV show thread but I have no desire to go dig up it up.

I am thinking of watching Firefly.

Bwahaha.

I tried to get my film/TV group to watch that next, but they wouldn't bite. It's a LOTR/Doctor Who tie, unfortunately (I'm up for Rings because it's Hobbit time soon, but there's just so much Who and I don't want us to watch nothing but that for the next four years.)

*sigh* I know, but I just get ragey sometimes. I've already mostly given up on American TV because anything I really like is sure to get cancelled as quickly as possible.

You're right about the second paragraph. I'm an avid podcast listener and there's some excellent work out there done by people who don't have a lot of money and don't (usually) get paid for it, it'll be great to see what some of them do with visuals. In among a lot of garbage, of course but the good stuff is relatively easy to find.

And yes, everyone, Casino Royale is fantastic. (If I remember it correctly, it's been a few years).

Is anyone watching Revolution? It's really good.
Not heard of it, is it a show?

I think we should all take a moment to appreciated how many good movies have recently been released/are going to come out in the next few months. :D My uni's movie theatre is showing a Looper/Cloud Atlas double feature next week.

Cloud Atlas is so good!

Watching District 9. Ugh such a good movie.

I thought a sequel would come out by now
Neil Blomkamp's next is called Elysium and had Matt Damon as some cyborg soldier, but the plot's still very hush-hush. He's doing a sequel to District 9 after that.

"Set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a man takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized worlds. "

That sounds awesome. A bit like The Island, but I'm sure they'll make it work.

Does anyone get Daily Science Fiction stories mailed to them? 'Cos I think I've read something with the same premise there.
Nah, didn't even know that was a thing.

Wait, they're doing a District 9 sequel? Sweet. (says the one who keeps complaining about sequels)

Oh, and Cloud Atlas? Fantastic. Only I had to leave early because the city buses only run so late at night, so I guess Luciene can fill me in or something. Actually no, don't do that; things were going good for most of the characters when I left so if the whole thing crashes and burns later I don't want to know.

lol oh no! watching just the beginning is much worse, the suspense would kill me. goddamn ttc!

And DSF is really good. You can read it online but the story of the day is posted about a week later so its best to subscribe. And the sub-genre is always different so there's something for everyone.

Edit: If we all subscribe, we can discuss it here because whenever I forward the good stuff to people, they tend to mumble about their work schedule and look away when I ask what they thought.

Well some parts are bittersweet some are funny. (Like the barfight after the elderly broke out of the nursing home.)
流口水的婊子和猴子的笨儿子。
That story could have been a whole movie and I wouldn't have minded. :D Then again, some of the movie tended towards ridiculous; do they ever explain just what the guy in the top hat was about?

PTOLEMY'S GATE MADE ME BAWL MY EYES OUT. IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS. I WILL NOT WATCH THIS ENDING UNTIL EXAM STRESS TIME IS OVER.
