^Good choices. Okay, I've only seen Die Hard, but I hear the others are good.

It was okay, but the whole thing had a bit of a cut-out feel. That and I tend to forget that a movie is 3D within about 20 minutes. Probably the only 3D movie I've seen where I felt it actually enhanced the movie was Coraline.

We were talking about 3D in film today; I think that our teacher put it best when he pointed out that it's just so exhausting to watch them.

German expressionism tomorrow, yeah!

The cut-out-ness is what drives me nuts in regular 3D movies; I just guess it'd be less jarring in a cartoon.

I'd agree I don't think I've seen a film where the 3D actively enhanced it. I didn't get a chance to see Coraline in 3D, unfortunately.

The Adventures of Tintin appears to be out here on Monday. May have to go and see that.

I kind of want to see that, but I'd need to get past my hatred for unneccessary motion-capture first.

Watching lots of movies. The Big Year (okay, but needed to be funnier), Nosferatu and Metropolis (great, I thought they'd be really cheesy given the time period. They were, but it didn't make them bad movies), the new Winnie the Pooh (laugh all you want, it was very good) and The Lion King again.

What? I have to wait another two months.

@Fuzzy but what about Gollum? Who, incidentally, is playing Captain Haddock.

For once we're getting some good films before your side of the pond. First Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, now this. Ha HA!

Unnecessary motion capture. I'm perfectly okay with it if it's being used for non-human characters (Avatar's another good example, and Serkis is awesome), with humans it tends to very often veer into uncanny valley territory. I'll admit it looks better than A Christmas Carol was, but I'm skeptical.

In other news, I hear they're making a Battlestar Galactica movie. Thoughts?

I think it looks pretty good in the trailers. I shall report back assuming I do manage to see it, however.

I've not heard much about it. Just that it's based on the original series, rather than the revived series. It'll suck compared to the revived series, anyway, as that is truly a pinnacle of all that is awesome.

I saw Apollo 18 and Real Steel recently. about a month between them too.
I wish I were a cat-dragon
I watched The Little Bride yesterday. It is a Korean movie; quite funny.

Has anyone noticed how crap the selection of movies this year (or at least Hollywood movies) has been?
Started watching Castle. It is great. And Nathan Fillion is awesome.

I love him, but I used to watch a ton of crime shows as a kid and I'm kind of burnt out by them. There's a few I'll watch regularily, but that's unfortunately not one of them. Did manage to see the one where they sneak in a Firefly reference though. :D

This so much. Some of it can be chalked up to the nostalgia factor, but things have still been pretty underwhelming. There's been some decent moices, but I can only think of a handful that I really loved. The quality in animation has especially gone downhill. However, I'm not too upset about it; it gives me a chance to catch up on a ton of good old movies I'd never seen before.

Don't think I have got there. Anyway, I don't know anything about Firefly so even if I had heard it, I wouldn't have understood it.

So, I finally saw the Matrix the other day. (never seen it, strangely enough because my siblings watch it pretty frequently) I liked it, but it borrows pretty heavily from the movies Metropolis and Ghost in the Shell which I also saw recently, so I kept comparing them.

The Muppets comes out in two weeks, I'm crazy excited about it.

oh my god, the Muppets!

also Despicable Me 2, JOHN CARTER.
I wish I were a cat-dragon
YES.

Also Brave. But the Muppets is closer than any of those. :D Not a whole lot of other people seem excited about it, unfortunately. Doesn't mean I won't drag them to see it. (except for my sister, because I know she would make me go to Breaking Dawn in exchange).
