Um, no magician can do magic without the help of a demon. Those Detonations and things you refer to were probably just created by an invisible djinni standing by.
Can't be sure, though. Why would she bother wasting time having the djinni form it in her hand rather than her enemy's throught? :gladstone: :gladstone: :gladstone:

Btw, hi Nemaides! :new:

We've asked Stroud this; any spells that appear to be created by a magician are created by a bound or invisible spirit.

Gladstone said this elsewhere, but please use the edit button rather than posting repeatedly. Thanks.

Trying to edit this, to make sure i know how
IF IT DOESN'T WORK PLEASE DO NOT GET MAD FOR DOUBLE POSTING

Oh, and 1 more thing, also an edit, is it a double post if you say something, post it, then you want to quote another person, but no one has responded so yours will be beside eachother. Cuz iv'e already done that :ermm:
If there's a way to add something someone posted (as a quote)while editing, just tell me how and I'll do it from now on.

First of all, isnt shubit a djinni? not an afrit.. and if whitwell is second. then who is first?

I personally think that mandrake would win with bartimaeus, keep in mind that bartimaeus claims to have defeated afrits before. he always gets lucky!
I retracted my wing briefly, held the boy so he had a quick view of the square.
"Take a look," I said. "Which house do you think has the thinnest walls?"

For a moment, he was uncomprehending. Then his eyes widened. "You're
not---"

"That one? With the pink shutters? Yes, maybe you're right. Well, let's see..."

Shubit was both a djinni and an afrit at different points - editing error. Stroud confirmed he's supposed to be an afrit as he appears in PG if I remember correctly.

Whitwell would win. For obvious, already stated reasons.

But they're both kinda dead now, so...

I was of the opinion that Shubbit was portrayed as a Djinni more often, making the Afrit reference the error.

come on, bartimaeus always pulls through in some funny, lucky way. And that is why we love him!

I think you're right, actually.
Jonathan Stroud wrote:As for Shubit... hmm.... sounds as if he got a sudden impossible promotion in the last book. Djinn don't rise in status, so this might indeed have been a small mistake... Oops.
Definitely implies the djinni-ness was right.
