I was closing out the bar (I'm probably quote "too old" for adolecent fiction, but everyone's got to have a vice) when I read the last few pages. The ending REALLY pissed me off...but in a good way. I'm just mad that Jonathon Stroud killed off such an amazing character; granted, there was reason for it, but wow. I felt my emotions were being toyed with. Sniffle. It's not fair.

Stroud's definitely an awesome author though. I'm surprised...he doesn't seem to be getting much publicity. Shrug. Once he develops an OMFGFANDOMSPANNINGTHEUNIVERSE, I guess we can boast we were totally OLD SKEWL and addicted since the beginning.

I think he's already gaining an empire! I was in a new Barnes & Nobles today and on a shelf were the standard popular fantasy titles of the day - Harry Potter, Eragon, and every single book of the trilogy. We're slowly taking over the world!

*evil laughter*

But seriously. Just look at the section on FFNet. In a year, we've gone from one fic to 51, and an even stronger readership. Pretty good, I'd say.

In the UK Random House are premoting the books a lot, with free bookmarks and posters in many of the book shops

There is quite a lot of publicity around here. I got a Gate bookmark in my copy of Eldest... *runs*

I can honestly say I've never cried over a book or film.

Not really; remember Potter IV; Pandora tommorow; the warcraft series; doom; Prince of Persia ect. ect.

Potter 4 wasn't very good (better than the previous games, though), Splinter Cell was good (but I said they're rubbish only 90% of the time, and are sometimes better if they aren't following through a particular book), and I wasn't aware of Warcraft, Doom, or PoP being based on any books/films - what were they based on?

And Gladstone, I'm sure you'd get a feeling of limitation playing as Barti. Not nearly enough forms you could take, a limitation on the strategies you could use... it would almost certainly feel like it should be more open-ended.
Maybe with a lot of time and effort put in, but sadly, film/book games rarely have that much effort put in.

Well I haven't played the fourth Potter one but from what I've seen of the other three the third one was the only decent one. I didn't really like the fourth Potter movie either, it wasn't very true to the books and they changed a lot of things unnecessarily which they'd probably do with a Bartimaeus movie too. I'd be afraid that with a Bartimaeus movie we'd end up something like the Ella Enchanted movie, I don't know how many of you have read that book but it is so different from the book.

The problem with the fourth Potter film is that the book is so damn long, they have to change a lot to fit it into a film.

I know but like that thing where Fred and George fought with one another instead of laughing at each other's beards. How much longer could it have taken? Then the thing with Neville instead of Dobby. That's the kinds of things I'm talking about.

All in the name of what the director percieves as a better viewing experience. Not exactly major changes.

Putting a couple of grasping branches in the final maze, rather than Sphinxes and stuff, was stupid, though.

But that was probably a time thing because then Harry didn't have to solve a riddle. (That was him that solved the riddle right? It's been so long since I've read that book that I'm not quite sure about everything.)

OK, fine, the riddle would have taken time - but surely fighting off a giant spider or a - um, whatever it is - shapeshifting thing - would be more interesting than running away from a couple of branches...

All based on flop books and\or ancient films. (Weird. the books are bad\the games are great; the books are great (If you call potter 'great) the games are duds.)

you're right; bart would have been crap. But then, again Nathaniel and Kitty could have such athmosphere.... Anyone ever play Clive Barker's Undying?

You've got me interested now - can you give any titles for the books/films?

Yes, I've played a bit of Undying, and if you're suggesting they could turn the game into a horror, no. It is, basically, a kid's book, and so gets a cheap, quick kid's game that everyone buys and nobody with any sense likes. With time and money, someone could create a fantastic Barti game. Or perhaps a mod for TES IV: Oblivion.
Realistically, yes, there will almost certainly be Barti games, and they will almost certainly be quick, cheap, kids games. Sad but true.

My... aren't you pessimistic.
But, your right. Sad but true.
Well, might as well look forward to the films. (PS isn't Miramax the company that specializes in cartoon films ie incredibles ect.)
As for the titles. There was a cheap horror book Doom in the dawn of the digital age; when our grandfathers were playing Pong.
There are several Warcraft books. Substandard. They make Paolini look like a genius.
There was a Prince of persia movies, once. The guy in andromeda starred in it.
I sugest you don't waste your time. they were flops in there era.

Oh, believe me, I'm not interested in playing them. I've read through features on the creation of all of those games, and none of them have mentioned books/films. For example Doom came about because they needed something to put in their new, shiny 3D engine that could do non-90 degree angles.

And yes, I am pessimistic.

well, games based on books and movies are usually bad because the movie of the book is usualy bad.

but yeah, if they make barty movies i'll definatley see them, but i have a feeling it'll spoil the books.

but really, the ending. sob!! i finished it and then i rolled over on my bed and started crying! And that was yesterday. today i'm kinda in a highly emotional state, i get really mad at my parents and everything. yeah, it's sad that he killed off such a reat chracter. i mean, in the end, the last cahpter, your gut is telling you he's dead but you dont' find out til the final page and then i was like "no, he must've escaped!! somehow!!" i was sooo sad! anyway, i have to go but i'll post more later. but i can't wiat til the author comes here`!!

yeah, i think this trilogy really has very little promotion, which is sad. ah well. most promotions come with movies based on the books and then they turn the books upside down and have a lot of blatant merchandising.

Nathaniel might have escaped as it never says that he dies just haevily implies it, Bartimaeus might have done something to take his mind back to the other place or some thing to that effect. Wells lests hope any way.

It's possible that Nathaniel crossed Ptolemy's Gate when he dismissed Barti, but it's unlikely.

I hate when everyone always complains about HP not being very true to the book. It was. People have to realize that its a movie adaption and quit getting worked up over stupid things.
