Is It Just Me Or.....

yeah, it's good that he changed and growed.
'"That's right," I said "Me. What, did you think that I'd be all nice and quiet for you? Think again, sonny. There are two of us in this body now. Check this out."
To prove my point I lifted one of his fingers and methodically picked his nose. He uttered a squawk of protest. "Stop that!"'
I lowered the arm. "That's not all I can do if I put your mind to it"'

In the second book you can defiantely relate more to bartimaeus, it almost seems as you are bartimaeus`s close friend, when he talks about Nat, and you agree with all of it.

Well written

I actually liked the second book. I think the focus was supposed to be more on the plight of the commoners, to give us more insight into how the magicians treat them. I also agree with Nathaniel (the user) when he said Nathaniel (the character) was just growing up to be like the pre-existing magicians.

The only thing I didn't like about GE was that it wound up feeling a bit rushed. I felt that the time spent in Prague ended too abruptly and not much was revealed beyond smoke and mirrors again.

there should have been more discovered about the Great Conspiracy

but then that would have given too much away about the third book and Makepeace?

Well, it was obvious that Makepeace was the big antogonist. I knew he would be the bad guy in the third book ever since that conversation the pair had when discussing capturing Kitty.

Nathaniel was creepy in the second book, and some of the stuff he said and did really frustrated the crap out of me. But what do you expect, he was just adapting to his environment.

I thought he'd become the good guy though

umm, I actually liked Nathaniel in the second book. Sure he was really rotten and I wanted to kick him several times because of his attitude but, his personality just grew on me (did that make any sense?)...Nathaniel's a very interesting character.

Welcome Riddel. Yes, 2nd book Nathaniel tends to grow on people like a fungus. I actually lost my copy of Golem's Eye, woe be me, and I want to read it again. I might borrow it from my friend, and I'll refer him to this forum while I'm at it. I mentioned that I'm part of the forum when I noticed him reading Amulet Samarkand, and he said he liked it. He read Golem's Eye, but he's reading other things than Ptolemy's Gate at the moment, which I offered to let him borrow.

I will catch him in my web of deceit yet.

I liked the cliffie of the end of the second book. I was SO sure Nat was going to help Kitty out in the end despite himself. Nope, he just stayed a jerk until PG. Oh well, it left off for a nice self sacrificing redemption.

I love how at the end of book 1 where barty is telling him not to become one of the other magicians, and to keep his conscience, but then by the next book you see that nathaniel didnt really take the advice on board

Amusing, Eternity, you say 'on board' then have a pirate at the bottom. (I am NOT doing a Ninja/Pirate debate here, I swear.)

I know, the second book really had me hanging there. When I first saw Kitty, I thought she'd meet Nat pretty soon and they'd hook up. But then the book went on and they still didn't even meet until slightly past halfway of the book. And then I thought he, in a jerky way, do a 'help the girl anoymonously and go thing.' Never did. So when I re-read the ending of the first book, and Nat says "I'll be fine," I was like Nooo!!
