Her school teachers didn't. Her classmates, well I can't confirm if they disliked her, but bleh. The leader of the resistance didn't really "like" her, he just wanted her so there could be a new Resistance member. Nat didn't like her until she almost died for him. Bart thought she was interesting and was pleasant to her in GE (when they were both feeling oppressed together.) However, he only gave her true dedication when she went to the Other Place.

Anybody can. But it's only a select few orphans who are chosen to do so. And she only learned because she met an old eccentric man willing to teach her.
wrote:She's "special"
Sure. But she's a also a three dimensional character who doesn't *always* get it right. Her "specialness" doesn't necessarily make her a Sue.

Wow. way to write a novel.

I am still unmoved. Kitty is a Mary-Sue. Just let me find that link...

I think she made some HUGE mistakes, like the "trust me Kitty, step out of the pentagle" moment. WTH! I would have, but then, if I was in that world, trust would already have killed me. ~Overuse of commas alert~ Ahhrrg!! Not again!

Wait, you think she should have stepped out of the pentacle? I would have. It just makes you hate her more, because she doesn't worship Bart.

She is so selfish, she thinks the demons will all work for her, no trust involved. Mary-Sue.

Kitty thought spirits and commoners could work together to overthrow magicians, that doesn't make her a Mary Sue. It would if Barti had immediately jumped into the idea, but no, he laughed in her face. That's making a mistake, far from a Mary Sue.

And c'mon he laughs at her and makes it clear they don't have any common ground, how could she have known he wouldn't have eaten her up. I'll be honest, I'd have probably done the same. Kitty has real emotions and acts correctly on them. She is hesitant and scared. In the process, Barti finds no reason to respect her.

Being selfish doesn't necessarily make you a Sue, all humans are selfish at least in one point of their life. And she wasn't exactly being bowed down to because of it.

ok... I don't have that much against selfishness.
Perfectly normal human trait.
Kitty was just so annoyingly perfect.
Sure, she made some mistakes, but not as many as Nat.
Nat was so much easier to like.

If you don't like her, you don't like her. But please, Kitty is NOT a MS.

Mary Sue-ness aside, does anyone kow exactly how many times Bartimaeus criticizes Nat's hair in the second book?

Not sure, but I know it was enough to make it stick in my mind. All I could imagine about Nat was hair that was similar to Snape's in length, but possibly more girly.

 Just thinking of the image makes me laugh.

You are... Isis! ~~~ Isis was the protective goddess and used her magical powers for people in need.

No humans can. It's the spirits/demons who do the magic.
