Totally :D
Absolutely. And go break all the rules there. =D

Of course :D
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.

The Harry Potters were fun and tidy to read but they didn't grip me, Barti however, I was up until 4 in the morning because I couldn't put the book down.
I think Bartimaeus Trilogy is really better than HP, I like Bartimaeus fantasy series's books, Specially the final book of the series "Ptolemy's Gate".
I'm a HP fan. However, Bartimaeus totally ROCKS! The Bartimaeus Sequences are the best books I've ever read. I'm praying the Ring of Solomon isn't the last book. I was actually surprised to find these books in the children's section. I think these books are awesome for adults as well. I'm 41 and absolutely adore old Barti!

IKR. :D I know he wants to honor both Dumbledore and Severus and all.. But still, even Albus alone is bad enough, add severus and you'll make your son bullied for the rest of his life
By the way, I like the Bartimaeus series better than HP. :) Sometimes, too much detail and information slackens all the action, and this is exactly the case with HP. Mr. Stroud doesn't bother with trivialities i.e. what word is spoken or what rune is drawn and this makes the story fast-paced and exciting.

that's exactly what I think

If harry really wants to name his son after dumbledore and snape, he should at least tried to modify their names a bit!
Definitely agree about the Albus Severus thing. Not only was it uncreative, it was also insane. Although the wizard part of that universe may have different standards about naming, but I don't think so.

I do agree that the Bartimaeus Trilogy is better, although I like Harry Potter. I haven't found a plot hole in this series yet, unlike in Harry Potter (in GoF, why couldn't they just make anything a portkey instead of all that cup stuff?) And the writing is overall better. :)
I shall spread your vile essence across this hall like...um, like margarine. A very thick layer of it...
definitely bt. hp was good but its nothing compared to bartimaeus.

I liked Harry Potter, but Bartimaeus was better, by all means.

HP barely developed the characters at all. Harry: Selfless and 'perfect'. Hermione: Brave and smart. Ron: I don't even know.
Whereas in Bartimaeus, each of the characters has a voice. Bart is insightful, boastful and cynical, but respects those who aren't just conformists. Nat is clever, elegant (mostly), and knows what he wants. When he's Mandrake, he's occupied with himself and hungry for power. Kitty, a bit like Bart, is outspoken. She also questions everything and has a strong sense of morals.

Harry Potter's just completely unrealistic. I don't mean the magic aspect, but there are no comparisons to the real world. Meaningful comparisons, that is. Bartimaeus, however, is full of political insights, mainly metaphorical. One just has to look.

Bartimaeus is infinitely superior to Harry Potter. HP was just SO shallow. Did the characters ever really have any surprising moments? :-/

And yes, I have read both series, numerous times.

It's a paradox for me -- When I read Harry Potter, I find it amazing and don't have any interest in Bart. When I read Bart, I think of how funny and cool it is and wonder how anyone could like Harry Potter.
A dozen more questions occurred to me*.

*Not to mention 22 possible solutions to each one, 16 resulting hypotheses and counter-theorems, 8 abstract speculations, a quadrilateral equation, 2 axioms, and a limerick. That's raw intelligence for you.

The characters from Harry Potter had really pathetic character flaws, if they existed at all. I mean the Voldemort inside Harry Potter's head was really cheesy (Don't worry Harry, you're not evil. It's what's on the inside!) Dumbledore was the only person with a real character flaw, but that only came up after 6 books of being the perfect wise old magician. Wasn't realistic.

I liked them at the time, but when I first read Golem's Eye (I read that one first. Out of order, I know) I liked it sooooo much better. Go Barty!
Nooooo don't make me choose.... :( they're such different books, its impossible to compare them. Although i do agree with FuzzyLobster i would rather go to hogwarts than live in Nathaniels london. .... and yes Bartimaeus is a MUCH better character than Harry, Harry is kind of a wimp a lot of the time. ...Then again Nathaniel has had his idiotic moments too. so....i don't think i got anywhere with this post at all...haha.
This space is intentionally blank.
Interesting question. I really loved Harry Potter, but must admit that the BT is so singular (in the good way) and, I think, much more mature, that I don't really know witch one I should choose... each one has it's own good things. However, I must admit that Harry and Voldemort both really get on my nerves. They're too stereotyped. One reason I love the BT is, that the characters are far more engaging that in the HP serie.
...
Well, if I must really choose, I would say the BT of course^^

I like both, really, but the thing is: I prefere the HP fandom to the books, but with bartimaeus it's the other way around, which would make TBT the winner *yay!*.
I really didn't like the epilogue and the 'happily ever after', TBT is so much realistic, with important characters actually dying

I know the 3 main characters didn't die but there were so many others, who were also quite important, who died. I know there are many flaws with the HP books, but I couldn't diss it for this reason.

Depends on the definition of 'important'.

I think the fandom made secondary characters like, let's say, Dobby appear more important than in the books
