baritmaeus trilogy or harry potter?

Book Discussion
I don't know about same plot. A hero and a villain (who is infinitely more powerful). The hero defeats the wicked villain by forging friendships, being wise, fair and unselfish.
Nearly every novel is the same that way. There are surely exceptions (like Animal Farm) but in almost everything there is a "good" and a "bad".

Ah yes. I would agree then on the whole Good vs. Evil thing. And how good always triumphs evil.

(P.S. I loved Animal Farm!! But it was a sad ending. But I think thats what George Orwell likes. 1984 didn't end so happily either.)

(p.p.s I accidentally sent a report to a mod. I keep hitting report instead of quote. Some heads up)

BWAHAHAHA!!! That's great.

Eh, I think that's more of a fantasy trope than anything else.

I love both series but Bart edges it for me, purely because it knew when to stop.

bartimaeus trilogy is SO MUCH better than harry potter...the best 3 books I have ever read, especially "ptolemy's gate". HP gets boring after so many parts...
:welcome: Malena.
Nice username.

BT for sure. Although, I guess that's bias because I haven't read Harry Potter in a long time. But...still the Barty books. ^_^
"What do you presume...to know about me?"
Pffft. In a fire I would grab BT first and run like crazy. Harry Potter who? ;)

There was a comment about how all the books are the same because of the same plot. You can say that about any book with series. Even Bartimaeus -Gasp- But Its about variety of people and stuff. It that makes sense.
The plots of the books were very different. However, the beginning plot setup of PG was very similar to GE. But I like where Stroud went with it.
In all honesty, I have to say HP is better than BT, just by a fraction though...

The HP books were and are part of my childhood, and I can't leave them on the wayside...

Someone understands...
Yeah, they were a complete part of my childhood too. I read the first book when I was 11 years and the last book when I was 17. Pretty much grew up with the books.

Both series characterize my childhood (in-progress!) I actually ended up reading the books in Harry Potter and The Bartimaeus Trilogy in between each other, and I most definitely think that Bartimaeus is the best. :D

Though the first three books and Half-Blood Prince were incredible, HP had a disappointing end. Bartimaeus, however, has a mix of humour, plot, character development and sophistication to which nothing else I've read has compared.
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.

I never liked the first book much but I liked the fourth book of HP a lot. And the seventh connected all the little things in the other books, so it was nice to read it. And yeah, one definitely cannot compare the ending of HP to that of BT.

Yeah, BT humour is the best! =D. I love no character like I love Bartimaeus. And Nathaniel's character development was indeed brilliant. I think BT is probably the only series where I love the protagonists so much!

I think BT owns HP all the way.
I grew up with the HP books too. I found them more appealing that BT, which I didn't fully understand.

Now I've defenitely changed my mind.

As I kept reading the HP books, I'd found them more and more boring. Sure, some of the characters were awesome. But the main character was boring. Boring. BORING!!! Seriously, Harry bores me and annoys me like hell. He had no character development, because he was perfect from the beginning. He should have died. That would have made the story interesting.

Then I read the BT again. And I loved the books.  . Its humor is brilliant at times, the plot is really interesting, the characters are deep. Nathaniel's character development is amazing, Bartimaeus is the best character ever.

Yeah, I don't ever like reading HP now. But I still love reading BT. I think the HP charm wore off. Anyway, I did love the books like none other, so they will always be special. But, of course, BT will also always be special.
And yes, that is why my username. :D
And the name of my phone (for bluetooth basically but I still love naming my phone) is Bartimaeus. Best character EVAR.

Harry Potter had the bigger fanbase and more shippable characters. But for overall plot/dialogue quality and inducing literary inspiration, Bartimaeus wins.

yeah, the only reason i ever liked hp was because of the huge fanbase. its was addictive, when i got out of it i suddenly realised i hadn't actually read the books for years and that i couldn't really actually remember any details about the plot. basically i liked the fandom more than the books. I was horrified with myself.

the barti trilogys so different. i was continuously reading them even though i was 'into' hp and read them loads of times when i could have picked up the hp books instead. they're just fun to read not just because of the plot and characters, the writing style is very interesting to read as well with barti's parts and the amazingly detailed description.

and theres the fact that the first time i read hp i hated them (i was forced by my firend, at the time, to read them) and the first time i read AoS i was addicted. i've said this before but i think i liked the barti books before hp; might've even gotten me into reading.

they're different. hp was too samey; I've read the same thing as harry potter a hundred times under different names.

I grew up (Am growing up? Where is the cutoff point? :P) with both series.
*cue sappy violin music*
I started reading HP at age 6, and the last one came out when I was 13. Those characters were an integral part of my childhood, and all my family and friends loved them. For that reason, HP will always have a special place in my heart.
I found BT when I was 10 or 11. Already, I was a withdrawn and miserable person. I found solace in my favorite books, and Bart and co. were at the top of the list. However, these books made me significantly less miserable. So both get points for childhood memories.

However, I have to say that I prefer the Bartimaeus Trilogy. I find Bartimaeus and Nathaniel to be more interesting protagonists than Harry. Harry always just felt like your generic boy hero to me, without any strong defining character traits. Both books get major props for an engaging, detailed plot, but BT gets extra points for humour.

Bottom line: Both rock, Bartimaeus rocks harder.
