baritmaeus trilogy or harry potter?

Book Discussion
Yeah, I never really liked Harry. Would have liked it more if Harry was killed in the end and I was always more concerned about the Weasley twins (will never forgive JK for killing one and sparing the other), Dobby, Hagrid, Sirius, Ron and (later on) Hermione.

yeah, i would've liked it more if harry had been killed. he was just a too generic character to be likable, he was the main one so he was the basic average joe personality wise while the other characters had more defined personalities. i really had no interest in him what-so-ever.

i wanted harry to die. i never wanted nathaniel to. say's a lot about the books doesn't it.

Probably, the fact I like the most about HP is the absurdly big amount of Crack pairings you can come up with.
Like Trelawney/Fenrir Greyback. Or Fudge/Aragog. Or Scorpius/Sirius. Or Bellatrix/Hedwig. And so on and on.

They're both original in their own way but I have to say Bartimaeus is targeted at a more specific audience while HP appeals to all (hence the movies and the massive fanbase).

And by all you mean the lowest common denominator?

Maybe. Everyone has their own tastes and I won't criticize them for it.

That's part of Harry Potter's charm. It appeals to everyone. Children can read it, and so can their parents. The first two books I thought were more childish (WHEEE MAGICAL ADVENTURE), but after that I think the series got a lot darker and more mature as the trio grew up. The 6th and 7th books are still great for kids, of course, but there are some aspects that really appeal to older audiences.

The books are accessible. That's why JKR is so freakin' rich. Well, that and the fact that she's an obscenely talented writer, but no one wants to hear me shower her with praise. :P

Eh, her writing's alright, but she can definitely create an awesome world and is a good storyteller. I like Jonathan Stroud's writing style a lot better than JKR's.

And the ending of BT kicks HP's ass so hard.

I second this.

Yeah.

What kind of crap is that?

epilogue = cringe.

seriously, i didn't even like things like that when i was in the fandom, the stupid things the mad fangirls used to come up with, the fact that jkr did it was just horrifying.
Although I'm getting back into Harry Potter after a what... 4 year break, I still love Natty more ;)

Yeah, that's the only reason HP's more popular, I just can't imagine anyone older than 30 or younger than 10 reading Barti, although Barti's obviously soooooo much better than HP

I have relatives who are over 30 and have read the books.

I was eleven. It was awesome. I totally compared my self with Nat then, on my 15th birthday, and my 17th.

When I was younger I just loooved HP and read it like a hundred times. But know I think Bartimaeus trilogy is better. I finished the third book while I was on a trip with my family. I was just so sad that it had ended already (I had planned every day - how much to read so that the book would last longer. Still, it was so interesting and I finished it during one of the first days:D). I´m also kind of disappointed that "The Ring of Solomon" is translated into Estonian (I live in Estonia(: ) and so I decided to order it online. I hope it is just as good as the previous books (I´m sure it is).

But still, I really like them both.

While I like Bartimaeus better than Harry Potter (I think, although I really need to reread both at some point), I'd much rather go to Hogwarts than live in Nat's London. Anyone else with me?
