Well, Verroq threw a silver disc into his shoulder. It became irrelevant, though, when Bartimaeus entered Nathaniel's body. Nathaniel was strengthened and energized, able to deal with the pain.
When I set out from the boy's attic window, my head was so full of competing plans and complex strategems that I didn't look where I was going and flew straight into a chimney.

Something symbolic in that. It's what fake freedom does for you.

Well, no actually.
Barti was the one who, when he was with Nat, was pain free and better.
He obscured Nat's injury, kept his mind off of it.
Once, they slip, and it hurts like hell, but only briefly, since they had crap to do.

Erm old topic yeah I know but I couldn't resist answering the last point. The "grave wound" they (Nathaniel/Bartimaeus) got was from Faquarl ambushing them from behind with a Detonation, not from the Mercenary's previous attacks.

I thought it was from when they tried to kill Nouda for the first time by shooting him with the Staff and it rebounded.
How many bears would a bear Grylles grill, if a bear Grylles could grill bears :O

Zeno is right, if I recall correctly. Faquarl barely hurt them.

Well actually no, you can't rebound/deflect a hit from the Staff of Gladstone which is the most badass talisman around. Nathaniel/Bartimaeus were hit in the side by a Detonation from a "shadow" rising up (presumably Nouda) as they tried but failed to destroy him with the full controllable power of the staff.

My bad about the Faquarl bit, it still was Detonation but from a different level of spirit. Faquarl is just so awesome that in my mind I've given him Greater Spirit level powers =P
