I have got the beta of Win7 on a very old laptop (1.7GHz Processor, 512MB RAM, Ge Force FX5200 Graphics Card, 60GB HDD) that I thought would never be used again; it did take me ages to find the necessary drivers to get everything to work like aero though.

So far I have had no problems with it and it works great, more stable than Vista and the fact it can run on such an old laptop is great.

Anyone else going to try the beta or anyone looking forward to Win7?

EDIT: Added a screeny

i might its tempting more stable then vista? sounds good so far.

So the claims that it'll run smoothly on a netbook (1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM, Intel graphics chip) are accurate? In the beta, no less? Wow. I'd barely dared hope.
Dunno if I'll try it, though; I'm already planning to move to Kubuntu as my main OS on my desktop and I think three OSes (still need xp for games and other bits of windows-only software) would be slight overkill..
Looking rather more promising than Vista already, though. Yay.

Yeah, when Win7 releases MS will be supporting 3 OSes which is very silly and I don't know if it will be XP or Vista that is dropped first :P

i might try Win7 on my Acer Aspire One soon

I suspect xp support will be dropped first; their main excuse for still supporting it has been netbooks, and if Win7 really can run on a netbook that's that for that excuse.

True but they will want to get rid of Vista sharpish too
Why? Nothing wrong with Vista.

ZOMG NATHANIEL POSTED A THREAD

I believe that XP would be dropped first, logically, as Vista is a newer version...

But I'm very ignorant in this area...

But I do like the handwriting recognition feature. =D

Edit: Wasn't the beta leaked onto the Internet?

How do you think I have the beta? :P

Its not that impressive that I posted a thread, I posted one only a few months back :P

Vista is fine, but not all it could be - Win7 is better and hopefully wont carry the negitives (whether they are real or not) that Vista has

In all likelyhood XP will be dropped first but Vista does have a negitive impression with many people that XP doesn't

Vista's too resource hungry for too little gain, and with only superficial changes from XP. Win7's XP-sized system resource draw shows Vista's hunger was just shoddy programming, and might actually achieve the sort of streamlining Vista was going for (it doesn't count as streamlining if you just throw more engine power at it),

I personally like XP better than Vista though.

Ah, this is what Vista should've been.
If or when I get windows, it'll be this.
And hooray for torrents, eh Nat?

Saw that too.
Too bad Microsoft took so long.
You wait, at CES Balmer'll announce capability with the Zune Phone.
Least the Zµnepocalypse is over :P

Yeah, but now they seem to be getting on the right track.
Hopefully it will be the next Windows Mobile. WinMo is currently very, very bad.
The zune issue is not MS' fault - the same thing happened to some other companies PMP which use the same processor as the 30GB Zune. It was hardly a major problem anyway.

Wasn't ARM, was it?

I just hope Microsoft and Adobe get off their ass and start doing 64-bit properly.
Sheesh, If CS5 isn't 64-bit I'm gonna shoot somebody.
