Sublime? It's a highly scripted shooter. Graphics are shiny, but there are better.

Call of Duty 2, then, if you like FPSes.

EDIT: Eh, Half life 2 is good. I realized I was thinking of Episode 1

I don't like CoD. It tries to balance being realistic and being fast paced and actiony, and it just doesn't work. You want realistic, you play Operation Flashpoint (another great game), and you want action, you play Half Life 2 or something like UT2004. Trying to balance them just feels silly.

Episode 1 is a bit over-scripted. Still good, though. Episode 2 will hopefully be less scripted.

It works, most immersive game I've seen.

It really doesn't; at least, not for me. I hated it. Felt so silly.
Maybe it's just cos I've played Operation Flashpoint so I know what a really realistic, immersive, good game plays like, and CoD is not it.

Played elite a while back. Wasn't impressed. Sure, one shot and your dead is realistic, but it ain't fun.

It can be if it's done right. CoD on stupidly hard difficulty is not fun. This is because the game is built around not being realistic.
Now, when the whole game is designed to be realistic, when one shot (to head or body) kills you, it can be fun. When you can hide behind walls, under bushes, in forests, crawl forwards to avoid being seen, fire from behind the cover of a wall or something, throw smoke grenades for cover, call fire support from the rest of your squad or from airstrikes, now that is fun.

I already have the CoD franchise. I'm only looking for good PC games, not console. But CoD3 rocks.

Yeah, I want to gate Medieaviel II TW.
Ever heard of Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction? Sloppy to ok graphics, fun concept. Your basically given tons of military weopens, vehicles, supplies, and airstrikes, sent to NK, and told to do whatever you want.
Also, has anyone ever heard of Battlefront II? I'm sure we have. Such a good time in 2 player...

And how can you say CoD isn't realistic? CoDIII is pretty realistic.

CoD 1 and 2 are on PC.

Medieval 2 is pretty demanding on your system resources, and isn't really that much better than Rome, which is much less demanding. Both leagues ahead of Medieval 1 though.

Buy Operation Flashpoint for the PC for about £5 (it's quite old). Play it. Be amazed. No longer be deluded into thinking CoD is realistic.

Heard of Battlefront 2, know that on PC at least, it's crap.

Not crap on the PS2.

And I'm talking about CoD games for the PS2. I can see why they might not look as realistic on the PC. They are when you can play them on a T.V. though. I'm not used to playing console games on the PC.

Strategy games are usually fun, and Medieval II looks like a good one.

The Total War series as a whole is very good.

Look? What does that have to do with it? The whole gameplay mechanics of the CoD series is unrealistic. There's far too much up-close action for a start. If your enemy is more than a little blob you're too close.

I'm pretty sure they've cracked it. I read an article in the LA Times that said that a pirater managed to find the frequency that unlocks the disk and allows it to be burned.

Yeah, your right... I was just arguing to argue :P.
But then it wouldn't be as fun. Most people like FPS games up close and homicidal.

They did? The guy must be a genius or extremely lucky.

Just play Company of Heroes once. You will never see strategy the same way again.

Medieval is a total system hog. Rome ran on near full on 256 MB of RAM.

And that's the point: Call of Duty balances realism and fun. Just the right abouts of both.

I doubt it was because he's a genius. Why would a genius spend his time on pirating movies? No, I'm pretty sure the idiot stumbled upon it.

And up close and homicidal games can be bloody fun, but please, please, oh great developers, keep them that way and don't try and pretend they're realistic as well. They're not.
Mmm, Flashpoint... you know it's realistic when the developers spend years on the sequel modelling the balllistics for each and every weapon in the game.

Also, Post, realism and fun are not mutually exclusive. Realistic games can be fun if done right. Up close and homicidal games can be fun if done right. What's almost never fun is a clumsy attempt at balancing the two, because the action feels slow and it's still unrealistic.

Notice how all three CoD storylines have very similar things. Some American saregent always dies or something. Last level ussually ends in an explosion. (Don't know about 3). But the scoped Leinfield and Sten are always fun.

Yet another reason to game on PCs: You never need to get a new one, you just upgrade bits of it.
