Who is your Favourite Villain?

General Chat
I was just wondering who you think are truly noteworthy villains, and why.
He/she/it can be from books, films, comics and anywhere else you can think of!
Also, what do you think constitutes an awesome villain? And if you had to give them a theme tune, what would it be?
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.

One of my favourite villains is the Archimandrite Luseferous, from The Algebraist by Iain M. Banks. He has the head of a former rival artificially kept alive and strapped to his ceiling as a punchbag. He got attacked by an assassin with genetically modified poisonous canine teeth, so he had the teeth modified to keep growing indefinitely and keeps said assassin restrained in his office until the teeth grow long enough to curve around and kill him.

Also, Iago from Shakespeare's Othello. Delightfully evil and manipulative.

Honourable mentions to Moriarty (of course), Number One/Cavil from Battlestar Galactica, the Hands of Blue from Firefly, and anyone else I've forgotten.

Professor Moriarty of Sherlock Holmes.
Hyde from Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.
Jon Spiro and Opal Koboi from Artemis Fowl

Can think of only these three now.

I admire this guy too.

Spiro was a wonderfully American villain.

Vader. Imposing enough to be on the list.
HAL 9000, first time a cooly insane computer was in movies.
Lecter - "I ate his liver with some..." finish it. :D

Edit: Oi! Terminator, The Joker, and Dracula. As characters, they are all generally written to be great villains. I'm not proud of Romero's Joker, but ah well.

King Radical is so much more awesome than Frans Rayner.

Good man.

Dragon Ball Z Kai (Or DB Kai) ftw. DBZ without the BS.

Eugh. I... mostly didn't like Bebe. But waiiiit... he was in the series-not-to-be-named, wasn't he?

Never saw a whole lot of G† to begin with. Quit trying real quick.

I saw the whole of GT, but I was young and entranced by action at the time.
As for DBZ, I thought the Buu saga was the most entertaining, but Cell was always my favourite villain <3

The only reason i'm okay at with GT is because Toriyama was part of the project. But yeah, its cabbage compared to DB and DBZ. Also, filler = annoying.

I miss DBZ...but I miss Beyblade more. :'( That show used to be my life.
As for villains:

Wow, and I thought Voldemort and Sauron were bad...this guy is epic. Must buy a copy of the Algebraist.

Voldermort is pretty badass too, I think. He went on to make seven horcruxes and did his best to be immortal. He thought of some cool plans (like taking Harry's blood for resurrection though that turned out to be a weak point in his plan) and all those ideas he came up with in the seventh year (like making his name a taboo).

Voldemort was one of my favourite villains until I watched The Dark Knight, at which point the Joker raced ahead. I like villains who are difficult to figure out, and Voldemort became a tad too predictable towards the end of the series.

Also, Voldemort has no cool phrases like "Why so serious?" or "It's simple: kill the Batman." All he could probably use is "Avada Kedavra!" which isn't so much a phrase as a death sentence.

Voldemort and The Joker are in different leagues, I think.
Voldemort was awesome, and the fact that he went further in those magics than anyone else is a testament of that.

The Joker was f*cking awesome. "I'm like a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with it if I caught it. I just... do."

WARNING: SPONGEBOB REFERENCE COMING UP!

THE FLYING DUTCHMAN IS THE MOST KICK BUTT AWESOME VILLAIN EVER! i just went there.

but for real, Simon Lovelace was pretty good as a villain, voldemort obviously terrifying, and nothing comes to mind yet from this department, but villains who are going insane are always a tad terrifying.
