I'm all for more defence spending-in India. The US doesn't need it. India does-badly. Pakistan spends over 5% of it's GDP in defence inspite of getting billions of dollors in aid from US & other countries. It also gets free weapons (aircrafts & tanks mostly) from US, China, North Korea etc. India on the other hand only spends 2% of her GDP in defence (this is after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks- before that it was 33% less) & doesn't get anything for free. It's utter madness-esp when we have Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka & China as neighbours.

Well, one would think the 1.1 Billion people would even things out, but I see your point.
Besides, we've got lots of stuff to protect.
Or 'protect', depending on your frame of reference and what you're referring to.

China has a bigger population though by 2040 India would overtake China (due to China's one child norm).
Yes, when I'm talking about defence, I mean protection only -from terrorist & land grabbers.

Land grabbers?
Trust me, they try anything like that, 'grabbing; won't be the adjective used to describe it.

Is grabbing an adjective in the first place? :::D

Grabbing is a verb, Datsyuk!
I was talking about China. Does the word 'seize' or 'occupy' sound better? What about 'arrogate'?

Datsyuk got owned by this coming from someone whose English is a second language.

Now now people.
If they were to grab land, they wouldn't describe the action as grabbing, it'd be described as taking or something.
Verb used as adjective.
Sheesh, read the damn thing and it'll make sense.

Firstly, the people 'taking' the land might not want to call their act as 'grabbing'. But I'm the one speaking, so I'm entitled to call it what I want & I feel the word 'grabbing' fits their action perfectly. 'Taking' is a very mild term (for this context). Secondly, about your controversial statement;
wrote:Trust me, they try anything like that, 'grabbing; won't be the adjective used to describe it.”
Nothing much to add- it's pretty much self-explanatory unless you have messed up with your punctuations(which you seem to have).

No.
Also, no.
"Grabbing" is a verb. If you were to say "a land grab", then grab would be a noun.
You could even say "a grabby movement", in which case it would indeed be an adjective, as it's describing the noun "movement". In the sense you used it however, it was a verb.

Time to play my favorite game: Devil's Advocate.

In that specific context, "grabbers" is used to accompany the noun "land", forming a double noun, "land grabbers". Thus "grabbers" may be interpreted as an adjective, modifying the definition of "land". But it's a stretch.

For the word "grabbing": When used as a participle, it can become a participle adjective, which is a verb form acting as an adjective. For example:

I hate that slimy, grabbing brute!

The words "slimy" and "grabbing" are adjectives modifying "brute".

What am I blabbering about again?

Honorius' definition is the one I meant, but actually describing english isn't my strong suit.
I'm a great orator, but being able to actually describe it fails...
