I disagree with "Thus "grabbers" may be interpreted as an adjective, modifying the definition of "land". But it's a stretch." It isn't. Interpreting "land" as an adjective modifying "grabbers", maybe, but it doesn't work the other way around. Cut the adjective out and you get "they're grabbers", which makes sense, or "they're land", which doesn't.

I was speaking of "For the word "grabbing": When used as a participle, it can become a participle adjective, which is a verb form acting as an adjective. For example:

I hate that slimy, grabbing brute!"

That one.
