Yes book thief. I'm currently addicted to the Percy Jackson series, those could be in the 80s or 90s on the list. :D

Why the hell is it the Hitchhiker's Trilogy?
It's five freaking books.
Well, and Colfer's sixth, which I haven't read.
Also, The Fountainhead. Not Fountain Head. Thank you.
Edit the Second - For Mythology, The Illiad, The Odyssey, Edith Hamilton's Mythology, Sutta Pitaka, Islam's Hadith, Cufucianism's The Thirteen Classics.
