That his name is Verroq and not Variq. Does anyone know why he can see on all seven planes? And how exactly he got the seven league boots?

No idea how he got hold of seven league boots - could have been on one of his targets, or as a reward for a mission, or anything really. He can see all seven planes for the same reason any magical resistance or ability appears.

'"That's right," I said "Me. What, did you think that I'd be all nice and quiet for you? Think again, sonny. There are two of us in this body now. Check this out."
To prove my point I lifted one of his fingers and methodically picked his nose. He uttered a squawk of protest. "Stop that!"'
I lowered the arm. "That's not all I can do if I put your mind to it"'

I wonder if any of the magicians have resistance.

Because anyone can become an apprentice if their parents give them to the government.

You know, we should ask Jonathan.

Since he's going to come on soon someone should post it soon.

I was also looking for Ptolemy to see if he was a real person. I found his Uncle and Cousin, but not him.

Hmmm. Interesting. i'll look into it. Mr. Stroud usually does real people or things.

Yes.

But for character purposes he may have invented him as a possibly living person.

So all orphans are magicians? That would kinda explain why their all so bitter and not very nice people. (ex: Jess. Whitewall)

Magicians probably have resistance because of all that time spent around magic. Their immune systems probably get built up. It's probably not as strong as the resistance of the commoners born with it. That's all

Some magicians will have resistance, but since they spend all their time with djinn around to protect them, they won't find out.

I believe there's a link to a Wikipedia article on the real Ptolemy somewhere in the Omnipedia.

Why does Barti describe Ptolemy as a dark skinned boy, if the real Ptolemy (Claudius) was Greek. In all his pictures, he's fair as well. Maybe, in the books, they weren't talking about Claudius Ptolemy

Well, there were a lot of Ptolemies, its a whole dynasty.

Yah.. but isn't it a Greek name?
User Avatar

It's a Greek name, but a family of Eygptians used it. Hence dark skin.

Magicians are orphans. Or unwanted kids as I prefer to call them as their parents aren't dead. Just heartless and vile.

Maybe not... maybe they couldn't support the kid, and knew that they could have a better life as a magician.

Well, some of the time maybe.

But in the Amulet of Samarkand the clerk said:

'It was the usual sort, take the money and run. They barely stopped to say goodbye.'

What if Nat had a twin and Kitty found him. It could be like a second trilogy.

Then I'd knock my head against the wall.

I want Jonathan to write about the past....maybe Kitty could try to continue Ptolemy's work some more with the whole questioning spirits thing. And she would summon Bartimaeus and he would tell her about his career.

I want more about Barti's previous masters. I'm not sure if Kitty's interested in history tho.. she doesn't seem like the type.
