I think that Stroud left many loose ends untied, like the Mercenary. It would be nice to see another book about all these characters. He just kinda 'disappeared and never came back'.

That explains everything! Queezle Survived the golem, decided to get back on Floukes and Humanity for their cruelty, Killed the Mercenary and disguised herself as him and inplanted the planned invasion in Faquarl's head and orchestrated the invasion! And Survived and Pestilence to Boot!
Now Stroud will use this as Book IV's plot! The clever fiend!
