I can't prove something is well-written can I?

You could provide examples, comparisons, sources..

Yeah, but thinking something is well-written is subjective

Yes, that's true, but yet a passage example can still be classified as having a good prose. Which is how critics on newspapers can show examples of an amazing novel. I'm sure you won't have much trouble....

Forget all that. You just can't actually tell if something is well written or not.
Exactly.

Certainly you're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to think you're wrong. If you're going to argue it, provide evidence. Copy and paste a passage of Eragon and explain what you like about the writing. Find a review that talks about how good the writing is and quote that.
Alternatively, stop arguing it and leave us to our negative opinion of it.

For a second, I thought this was a book three thread for Bartimaeus. I've lost it.

And secondly, I don't think any amount of arguing will make us change our minds. It's coming out next month, isn't it?

Their daring, nerve and chivalry
set Gryffindors apart."

I'm out of books.

At least physics has kept me busy.

Though I might get desperate enough to borrow it.

Sentynel, if you want review quotes you can have some.
Excerpt from the School Library Journal review by Susan L Rogers: "the empathetic characters and interesting plot twists will appeal to the legions of readers who have been captivated by the Lord of the Rings trilogy and are looking for more books like it."
Excerpt from the Midwest Book Review review: "Eragon by science fiction and fantasy enthusiast Christopher Paolini is a vigorously written high fantasy epic"

So we have:
* One directly comparing it to LotR, commenting on the plot twists which, as previously established, seem awfully like Star Wars', and calling the characters "empathetic" (uh? Right? Can't say I've ever been able to empathise with them myself, which is what I assume it's trying to say is possible..). Oh, and the previous sentence was "Eragon does not approach the depth, uniqueness, or mastery of J. R. R. Tolkien's works, and sometimes the magic solutions are just too convenient for getting out of difficult situations."
* And one calling it "vigorously written", which is hardly the same as well written.

Welcome to the club DC! :P

Edit: I love how arguments, no matter how intelligent or controlled, always come down to, "I hate you". Or I love you. I doubt that will be said between you two though....
Any argument with Sentynel, you mean. Because he is SO DAMN GOOD AT IT.
And Nero, you can't edit someone's quote just because they spell "honoured" differently.

I love you all. :P

Personally, even before I realized about the plagarism, I never liked the characters.

Ahahaha, David Cat, I would like to see you argue with Post; Post is a very huge anti-Inheritance fan...
"I witnessed an astronomical event, something as I watched I know I'd never see again. Pure truth." (House)
How good is Post at arguing? Is he better than the tetchy admin?
