It was probably the magicians then. The spirits probably got so used to it being called the other place that is stuck with them as well, even though it is there home.
Possible....but would the spirits like to call their home something that the Magicians made? Maybe they call it the 'Other Place' to hide it sreal name from the magicians?
Yes, I reckon the other place has a real name, because the other place isn't really...well a proper name.

Agreed! I really liked it because it was so dark, mysterious and the story was really obscure up to the end... I also like the development of John into just another power-obsesssed magician!
It was the worst to me. Kitty was very interesting and the book was easily the darkest of the three but it just didn't captivate me like the others. The golem had an appearance at the beginning but was mysteriously unseen until the end. Honorius was around for a surprisingly short time. It really just seemed like a filler between one and three to give a solid introduction John, Kitty, Makepeace, and the staff. All of this except Kitty could have been done in the third book, but it was definitely better in an entirely different book. I liked it and it's one of my favorite books but I worship one and two (not literally =P).
Edit: Also, the later Kitty chapters (when she is running from the Night Police) were very confusing to me and I ended up skimming them and skipped a couple of pages.
I never had that, but its one of the few books ive ever read where i had trouble reading it again, i would skip pages or find sumthing else to do...filler? I dont think so, it set up many things and introduced important aspects, but no, it's not the best.

CaffeineRiot.com I just mean that if felt like another oe of John's missions. Without Kitty, the book wouldn't have had much of an impact on the story except showing us JNathaniel's new attitude as John.
Very well said.

Lol, kinda ironic how I made a million spelling mistakes, eh?

My fav. order:
1. The Golem's Eye
2. The Amulet of Samarkand
3. Ptolemey's Gate
I liked the 1st one best.yay!!
1. PG - Just perfect. Much Barti. And Kitty started to be interesting.
2. AoS - A bit boring some places.
3. GE - Too much boring kitty.
Rekhyt Of Alexandria you have the same order as me. :D But for different reasons..
PG- Perfect, of course.
AoS- Good, but nathaniel hateing poor Bartimaeus was getting on my nerves.
GE- Yeah, Too much boring Kitty stuff. But still a really good book.
ofc. They are all good. Barti makes sure of that.
I loved PG. Except for when Nat died.
I liked Golem's Eye too, PG had almost as much boring kitty. i didn't mind it so much the first time i read it, kitty just gets boring the next times.
AoS, a wonderful start to a wonderful trilogy.
Look, Queezle.
I like all of them, with Ptolemy just ahead of the others by a slim margin, AoS right behind it, the close behind GE
