Terrorism

General Chat

Is a terrorist act ever appropriate, forgivable, or necessary?

Yes
No
Depends on the act (reasons why below)

I was thinking about the recent (and ongoing as of 11/28) events in India and figured that terrorism could make a good, serious topic.
In a way, I'd prefer the Mafia to a terrorist group.

Terrorists don't really care about anything except death and causing it.
They think they serve Allah's will and that they will be granted invitation into Paradise.
April Fool, jackass!

I don't know, I just figured it'd be a good topic to went, seeing as how every country represented here has had some sort of encounter with Terrorism.
Too bad, I hate waiting in like at Airports.
Don't we all?

Of interest, I had a freind ask me why all the terrorists seem to use AK-47s and stuff.
I told him one reason (out of many)- they're ƒ*cking everywhere.
Since I thought you all might wanna know:
The 'AK' stands for Avtomat Kalashnikova, or Kalashnikov's Automatic (Rifle), and AK-## is just the model number that the weapon was designed.
AK-47s and their little brothers, AK-74s, are rugged as hell.
They're everywhere: the 47 and 74 combine for roughly 100 million firearms, and are officially used in over 50 countries.
The AK-47 fires a 7.62x39mm rounds @ 2300 ft/s (710 m/s); the 74 fires a 5.45x39mm round @ ~2,953 (900 m/s). American M16s and M4s fire the NATO 5.56x45mm round.

It's today's date, you doofus. Ongoing means they're still happening. =p

Edit to Dansariki: and how the hell did you go from terrorist attacks in India to the technical specifications of the Kalashnikov family in one post!?

Ahahaha.
So that people know why terrorists like AK-47s.
Just that.
RPG-7s too, but that've been a waste of time.
Idk... Do you think there will be another terrorist attack on the level of 9/11 somewhere?

I live in Vegas, and I rather think we've got a larger target than other cities because we've so many hotels, buildings, and people, all ripe for the killin.
Not to mention the Hoover Dam, a national landmark.

Terrorists like AK-47s because there's lots of them and they're ridiculously reliable. You didn't have to post the calibre of the damn thing. =p

And you can shoot them so much that they burst into flames...and they still work.

Shooting something doesn't cause it to burst into flames.
Idiot.

Terrorists like AK-47s because they're cheap, they work, and the poetic justice of buying them from the Western world to use them on the Western world appeals.

I think she meant that they buy them from American manufacturers (unless America doesn't make them... I wouldn't know)

Atleast this time they are (Mumbai attacks). India has got enough evidence against Pakistan. And BIG evidence. It's been a horrific 3 days. I have lived in Mumbai all my life & nothing of this magnitude has happened before(1993 was big, but I was a couple of yrs old, so I don't remember anything).

Don't be so swift to blame Pakistan. While there is certainly a fair body of evidence that the terrorists are Pakistani or had Pakistani connections, there's little to no evidence that Pakistan the nation had any involvement.

India has a letter which shows that Pakistan navy officials & the ISI trained these terrorists before sending them to Mumbai. Plus, one terreorist has spilled the beans.

Sorry if I seem so anti-Pakistan, I seriously am not. I always wanted India & Pakistan to join together & never differentiated between the 2. But after watching all this happen so close to me, my views have changed. I'm not against the Pakistanis but completely against their government.

Oh BS. There's a fair bit evidence that the attackers were trained and equipped in Pakistan, but none whatsoever that they were equipped by the Pakistani government. The two current best guesses are Lashkar-e-Toiba, a Pakistani Islamic militant group, and internal Indian groups trying to deflect blame onto Pakistani groups. I believe the Lashkar-e-Toiba theory has the best support.

Technically, because she lives in Mumbai, she does have a bit more of a clearer view....
