:new: Please be nice to me.

I'm sure everyone remembers Bartimaeus's old friend from Prague, Queezle. He was rather fond of her, enough to show affection towards her (lighthearted banter, putting his tail around her to reassure her, ect.). But I was rather surprised that, when she died, Bartimaeus mentions once that he wants to avenge her as he's going in to face the golem, and she's never really brought up again. I was rather suprised by this.

I guess I was just wondering if anyone else wondered why Bartimaeus didn't seem upset over her death. Maybe it's just that he'd seen many battles and lost many friends in the past, and got over it quickly. Or maybe he's only pretending that it didn't bother him. We know that when Ptolemy died, he was very upset. (We saw his reaction when Kitty brought it up to him.)

What are your thoughts on it?
Attention Deficit Disorder.
An essence gets clogged up after five thousand years, I'd bet. This would be a secondary effect.
Um, I don't think so.

It's his POV, getting all teary would be inconsistent with his usual sarcastic manner and harm his 'street cred' or something. To borrow a phrase Stroud used to describe Mandrake, it's a 'hidden melancholy'.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Of course he was sad, but do you think, a being like him would actually cry? (Maybe it's not even physically possible.) He mourned on his own time.

And Ptolemy was special.

Sure, he liked Queezle, but did she trust and die for him?

No one but Ptolemy did.

No one even did that with other djinn. So Ptolemy truly was unique.

Deffiently ptolomy was unique, Bartimaeus had a bond with him. I wonder if he had a bond with queezle...
As you say, he's probably just used to losing his friends. Actually, he probably wouldnt consider other spirits as friends, more as associates, after all in the other place they don't talk to each other. They just fly about in their essences. If the two where pitched against each other in battle i bet he wouldnt think twice about killing her.

I agree. Well...we don't know if they talk in the other place...i suppose they could if they wanted....Bart spoke to Kitty didnt he?
Yeah but i'm pretty sure they just float about. I dont think they have contact with each other until they are summoned to our world. Unless i just imagined this.

hmm. No, you're probably right. I'm just saying that they do have the ability to communicate in the other place.

You're saying Ptolemy was unique but that was because he went to the Other Place and put his trust in Bartimaeus. Kitty did this as well so he wasn't unique.

And I'm pretty sure Nathaniel died for him at the end, or at least saved him.
Not saying he was Ptolemy or anything. that was different.

And I believe Bartimaeus did show some remorse, didn't he say he'd be going after the golem for revenge as well as a job? He probably forgot about Queezle when he was fighting in the meuseum.I'm sure he remebered her later, but didn't have enough time to dwell on it.

And, I believe he showed a small if not extremely small bit of remorse when Nathaniel blasted Faquarl? But then he got over it. And yeah, he might have been used to associates dieing. But Queezle was no mere associate. He wouldn't wrap a tail around any other spirit.

Kitty didn't both completely trust and die for Barti; nobody but Ptolemy did that.

Ptolemy was a great character. I hate his cousin almost as much as I hate Underwood.

Bah! Most of the Ptolemy's were complete idiots. They had no idea how to run an empire. (Well, most of the time.)

One of them (Number three, I believe, don't hold me to it.) was married to his cousin, one of the Cleopatra's for a time. They had a feud, she moved out, but the children stayed with him, although she missed them. On her next birthday, he sent her their son's head in a box.
