But twisting words is so fun!

And yes I am Canadian. But why does that matter? The American decision is going to influence every other country in the world, not just Canada.

We're totally taking over this forum. I guess this is proof that Canadian are the most literate of all the forum-posting nations

Team Maple Syrup FTW!

Election 2012: A Nation Votes, Ohio Decides; The Re-Presidenting of America: Who Will Replace Obama? '012! with Stephen Colbert is on Comedy Central tonight. Watch it!
*sudden urge to sing patriotic Canadian songs*

*realizes there's only like, two*

*urge over*

The thing that pisses me off is that a lot of the people I know (especially those my age) seem to care about this election much more than any of the recent Canadian ones. This is why we are stuck with Harper, people.

Join the club. :D

Hmm, watch the election special or study for Saturday's midterms that I am totally unprepared for? So conflicted
All I want for 2015/2016 is Colbert to be US President, and Rick Mercer to be Canadian PM. Is that too much to ask?

Well, I get excited about Canadian elections. Didn't matter though. I'm Albertan, we're conservative no matter what.

And Yay! Obama won. I was hoping he would. Just imagine if we had a pan-american Harper-Romney conservative love party? (pipelines EVERYWHERE) :o

Donald Trump is apparently holding $5M of charity money over Obama's head and telling him to release his college transcript. Why does that matter? Bush was in power for 8 years and his college transcript was a joke and noone cared.
Your first paragraph applies quite neatly to your second.

I was giving examples! And here's more: Apparently he won Election Night 2012's Most Unhinged Conservative.

Besides the national anthem, I can only think of Land of the Silver Birch and the Maple Leaf Forever.

Edit: oh and Hockey Night in Canada theme song. That counts, right?

Edit2: And there's three versions of the national anthem, the english, french and the bastardized combo that we listened to every mornng in school

Edit3: Does anyone else find it bizarre that they do referendums on the election ballot. And electoral colleges? so weird...

Gods no. Honestly, would it kill Alberta to go for some variety?? Although to be fair, I agree with the conservatives provincially.

The electoral college setup is really odd, yeah. Putting referenda on as well makes sense though; saves money compared to running separate elections for them.

idk, I understand why you'd want to put hot button issues on the ballot, but some of the items are really unnecessary. Like Florida had "Revises selection process for student member of Board of Governors of State University System."

Aren't they worried that it's time consuming for people to think about and vote on issues that don't really affect them? They might start randomly checking off boxes. And what's the point of asking people if they want to pay taxes? Obviously they're going to say no.

Or california's "condoms for porn stars" vote. idk if there's a similar law in Canada, but I know they didn't ask before they made bicycle helmets mandatory.

There's rules on what's necessary in terms of support to get something on the ballot. Sometimes I suppose this leads to really silly stuff getting on the ballots.

I do like the idea, though.

As for Donald Trump... even his own network thinks he's ridiculous. Ehehe.

That's great. Unfortunately there's not many I know my age that do (and then they complain about how high tuition is. Are you kidding me?)

Thanks for the song refs guys. And I can't believe I forgot Canadian Please.

Semi-relevant: Michael Ignatieff actually gave a talk at my uni last Thursday that I attended. It was really interesting, and kind of helped give some context to the kind of stuff that he bugged me about the US election. Still probably wouldn't have voted Liberal, though.

But tuition in Quebec is $2000/year!! And the worst part is that after paying 6 times that amount, we'd go to class and our profs would ask us why we were so soft and tell us if they were being robbed like us they'd be protesting.
Because Hallowe'en stuff lasts for approximately month and is fun, whereas elections are just people snapping at each other for two whole years? Doesn't make it right, but I could understand why they'd be tired of it. As compared to us where it's like 6 weeks and then we're done (if you don't count the Conservatives trying to discredit the opposition leader with campaign ads, I'm a little surprised they haven't started on Mulclair yet). Then again our turnout sucks too, there's got to be some sort of good balance somewhere... :/

Trust me, I hate the high tuition fees too (I've only been here 3 months and could rant about how ridiculous the university system is for hours). But if students would vote more, politicians would see them as a group they'd need to solicit votes for, hence a possible tuition increase/freeze.

...Y'know, if the professors though we should be paying lower tuition maybe they should demand less pay increases. :P Or maybe universities could stop will all of the new building projects trying to attract more students, which just increase fees for the rest of us anyway. Of course a lot of people I know don't really seem to care about how much money they spend because their parents/loans just take care of it for them... I don't exactly have that option.

Lol this is the funniest thing I've heard all week: some chinese newspaper thought The Onion was real and did a 55 page spread of Kim Jong Un based on a fake article that declared him the sexiest man alive. 55 pages!!
