Nathaniel's injury

Ptolemy's Gate
Yes, she was & Nat would invariably be chosen as PM. What would he have done? Allow the commoners to join his ranks? And stop all the wars?

I think with Kitty there he would be nicer to the commoners. He said some pretty nasty stuff about them before he became nice again though.
He said nasty things abt them in the first book. Or more rightly thought.

He was biased by his environment.
And I wouldn't call him "suddenly becoming nice". He started to turn back into his innocent self and began to see what he was and what the commoners really were.
Is martha a commoner? And Ms.Lutyens. I feel they got to be, seeing nat's initial attitude towards the commoners.

Yeah, I think he would have been a lot more considerate of them if not for Mr. Underwood and the rest. And I didn't say 'suddenly become nice,' just become nice.
They were commoners, but Nathaniel spent so much time with them they seemed like friends to him where as he though of the commoners as different.

Well it seemed like you inferred him suddenly becoming nice.
Yeah I know. It's ironic how he thought little of the commoners but highly of Ms. Lutyens and Mrs. Underwood.

Well, once you get to know someone and learn about them and see how capable they are its hard to treat them or think of them as badly as someone you don't know.

Yes, but he didn't see that the commoners were just like him and could be just as good a person as Martha, or Ms Lutyens or Nathaniel himself. He had been very blinded by the magicians

Yep.

My history teacher says that if the whole world sat down to dinner together, we'd never have another war.

It seemed relevant to this for some reason.

I hope there wouldn't be a war on who gets the turkey. :D
But yes, if people start talking without language barriers, that would be awesome. But of course, most idiots are too biased and racist in the first place to agree to this meal.

Yes.

But I think the point I was making with that is that Nat got to know certain commoners in an unbiased way and had respect and love for them.

Almost like him and Bart.

I hate Underwood for that part when he put Nat in that room for of demon who attacked him when he was little. That's when he got afraid of them.
That was necessary. How else could Underwood make him fear & hate demons? Mere words would'nt have achieved what that incident did. Still, there are better ways to educate a person.

Well, it makes for a good story for Nat to have to overcome his fear of demons for Bartimaeus, but it would have been alot easier for both if Nat liked him from the start. Like Ptolemy.
Nat didn't really like him at the end either. Trusted him, but didnt enjoy his company lke Ptolemy did.

I think he did enjoy the djinni's company, as inferred in the Golem's Eye. And he was still biased with Underwood's egging of hating demons, so the beginning, he was first awed, then put Barty down.
Yeah, but not on the same level with Ptolemy. :D

I vehemently disagree! He saved Bart solely coz he liked him. Who would'nt like a person who saved their lives a million times?
