Can they ban people for spamming? Not that I'm suggesting it or anything.

Well, if you do enough of it, I suppose...

Yes. But some magicians like Mr. Button are still doing research. And Makepeace did do experiments, but he was morally and mentally bankrupt so he doesn't excatly count....

That was Lime.

It does compare, as he came up with his own thing. And secondly, Nat was not retired from the government or in a department to do his own experimenting. He might have gotten around to it later, but he was only seventeen and there were more pressing matters aka fighting for his life/American Wars.

I'm going to have to warn you if you do it again.

I've already verbally warned you twice. Three strikes and you're out.

Well, warned, anyway.

When Kitty was looking up Bartimaeus, she found 3 different spirits named Rekyt. Barti has about 5 different names. D'you think he could have been summoned by any of them?

no bartimaeus is his real name others are nicknames,

ptolemy says it, when he goes to the other realm he will seak him calling him by his real name (bartimaeus)

I think that Rhekyt was actually one of the spirit's names. But I think a spirit can only be called by their true name as only a magician's birth name can harm them.

rekyt was a nickname for certain powerfull entities, one is an afrit and stuff, it was relevant to their favored form at the moment

Yes, names give power. A djinn's true name allows a magician to summon them. A magician's true name allows the djinn to reflect the magician's spells. That's why Ptolemy gave Barti his true name and never used Barti's.

his true name is barti, he didnt use his true name so he wouldnt have power over him

Ptolemy didn't use it out of politeness.

But Ptolemy still had power over him as he was the master.

Yes; Ptolemy had summoned Barti, by necessity using his true name, and therefore had power over him. However, Barti could block most of what Ptolemy would have been able to do to him since he knew Ptolemy's true name.

How do you know Ptolemy was his real name? I kinda doubt it 'cause the king's son wanted to kill him. Ptolemy wouldn't broadcast his name.

Wasnt Ptolemy just his second name?

No...They were named Ptolemy the first and so on. At least the egyptians Ptolemys. I think it was a last name for the Greek families of that name.
