Yes, but they can.
That's why I think they just talked, nobody would bother to listen in.

I never denied that.

I was thinking that they didn't really have a choice, they would just be able to listen.

Nah.
They just lay back and try not to think, and watch memories that drift by, whether theirs or not.

Maybe. It's besides the point anyway; it doesn't matter whether any spirits in the OP heard Faquarl communicating with Nouda or not because (as we know) the plan went ahead (at first) according to plan, without anyone previously doing anything to change it - meaning that IF other spirits overheard the plan they couldn't (or wouldn't) do anything about it (except maybe joining forces).

That's what I thought....I didn't know they could talk to each other... :-/

But I suppose they can because it wasn't only Nouda that knew of the plan ... The spirit in Jenkins body (Naeryan) said to Bartimaeus that it was worth being stuck in a body and everything because of the freedom ,and at some point she asks him if he will join their plan...

So I suppose they must have told other spirits in the OP otherwise the spirits in the human bodies wouldn't have any idea about what was going on...And since it doesn't mention in the book that they were given an explanation after they came to Earth , they must have agreed to it in the OP....

Either the OP, or Faquarl convinced Hopkins and/or Makepeace to summon them in turn.
Remember, Faquarl's plan took awhile to manifest.

A majority of the spirits summoned into the bodies probably had no idea what was going on, just the painless sensation and a feeling of freedom. Do you really think Faquarl would have bothered to ask every spirit's permission? Anyway, it's their own fault for destroying the minds of their hosts if they DID want to return to the other place. Or maybe they destroyed their host's mind by accident; but either way, none of them showed remorse except for Faquarl himself (yes, I know, MAYBE).

Faquarl didn't show remorse, only a certain kind of... foolishness at destroying it.
He saw the potential, and realized he made a mistake.
Didn't mean he actually regretted destroying Hopkin's mind.
Ok... I could buy that...

Basically what you just said is all the same thing.

They were reading off a list of candidates though, weren't they?

I think Sent is talking about the magicians who were called forth from a list before their bodies were taken up by the demons. Nouda monitored the whole thing, didn't he?

Nouda and co had a list of spirits they were picking off for the magicians to summon into themselves, were they not?

By what Faquarl said to Whitewell, it seems to be slightly improvised.

Though all the names do seem to come from the same book I believe...

There would definately be books with the names of existing demons in them, so that magicians could use them, obviously. I think Faquarl was selecting spirits pretty much at random from the book, by the way it's written in PG.

Mmhmm.
Undoubtably, they would be choosing higher-level spirits, in order to have a more powerful army.
If anyone needs proof of such a book, read the scene in GE where Mandrake summons Bart.
He mentions it there.

I said books, not one book. And there's no need for proof, it's undoubtedly true that such books do exist in the Bartimaeus Trilogy. Although, they may not be entirely accurate or complete. This is what the magician Button was talking about in PG, he wanted to compile a list of all surviving demons. I agree with the choosing higher spirits thing, though.
