Ptolemy's Gate
[+] Spoiler
I was BALLING when Nathaniel died! I was SO SAD! The last paragraph really did me in... as if i wasn't crying already! I was depressed all the next day, too.

I know exactly what you mean; I don't usually cry when I read books, but PG was the one exception... Also, the fact that it was on the very last page made me feel so helpless afterwards! I spent ages in denial, thinking: "I must have somehow managed to buy the one copy with a manufacturing defect, because this cannot be the last chapter."
Bartimaeus: It won't be the only mad thing about if you let this lot go. Check out that one at the end. He's taken the form of a footstool. Weird...but somehow I like his style.
Nathaniel: That is a footstool. No one's using that Pentacle.
I finished the book at night, so i had to watch something funny before going to bed so that i could sleep! it didn't really work though...
i ended up writing a letter to jonathan stroud because it was like the last unexplored tie to the trilogy. i think it kinda helped...

Wow, that's a really good idea :) Did you actually send the letter to him?
I made the mistake of waking up early to finish reading the final chapters, and then ending up miserable and distracted all the way through school that day!

I finished the book just ten minutes ago. I'm still reeling from the shock. In my opinion, it was a horrible ending. Alright, died as a hero and all but as Barti says: only politicians and writers say its so great.

As you can see I'm fuming. From the first pages of AoS we were on a journey with Nathaniel and ending it like that has left me feeling that my investment of time into reading that last book wasn't worth it. Though my opinion may change as the shock wears off.

But Mr. Stroud, I AM NOT HAPPY.

There hasn't been, to date, any fictional or non fictional media source that brought me to tears.

Though I gotta say, that particular part had almost gotten me there.

Not ashamed to admit that I cried like hell when Natty died. But, at the same time, you can't deny, the ending was awesome. It was different. No cliches. Really sad, but great.

Yep, I like how Stroud didn't skimp out and come up with some half-assed loophole and have him converse with some old man (Button would be the particular one I suppose). Nor did he marry Kitty and produce a dozen children with the names of something out of fanfic. Nor was the last line "all was well."

Erm...I'm totally not ripping on another series...

@Mwamba: lol, of course not... xD

I can't think of a better ending to the trilogy, but it's still pretty sad to remember. It feels like there's just a huge hole left where Nat should be.

You feel like that in the beginning. And then, you realize the ending was marvellous and nothing else could have been produced a better effect. And it is nice that the ending is left slightly open too. And, y'all can ask questions to JS in the "Questions to Jonathan Stroud" section. Though I think writing a letter is a better idea.

IKR! I loved harry potter! though not as much as BT, i still love hp

BTW in Rowling's defense, she probs would have been metaphorically if not literally murdered if Harry had died...

I was more concerned about Fred, George, Hagrid, Dobby and Ron's death. I suppose I would have even exchanged Hermione's death (had she died) with Harry's. He didn't seem like a normal person to me. Kind of freaky.

I felt worst about Remus, Tonks and Snape.
I can't exactly put my finger on why, but while I was reading HP I spent a lot of time hating Harry and thinking Draco was awesome ^o)

I was fumed about Lupin and Tonks going! I basically AM Tonks in some respects (Hermione in others) and I loved her relationship with Lupin. I think what I hated most about it was that by then the deaths were hardly worth mentioning, they got like a paragraph or something... They deserved better.

I don't know, aside from Draco breaking Harry's nose, he was kind of a wuss.

Or do you think Harry's presence just makes him nervous? ;)

I doubt you actually do, but hey, feel free to say it. If so, do it quick before they remove your post. :P
