I found the ending to not be as dramatic as I'd hoped. Not quite as Dramatic as HDM, for all you Pullman lovers out there. We aren't told outright that..Nathaniel has been killed. Stroud seems to try and work around it without directly telling us. Still a very awesome ending, though, and a great trilogy, all in all.

Yeah, 'twas an awesome seiries. One of my favorite parts was the Barti/Nat combo battle, they were an awesome one-man army. What with Barti's powers, Nat's knowledge, the Boots, the Staff, if they only had the Amulet, they'd be unstoppable.

As for Nat's fate, there's no chance he survived or escaped. He was at ground zero of a magical atomic detonation that leveled the building and killed off a Demon with powers only surpassed by Ramuthra it'self.

As for a game, it may be doable. It could be a Myst-style adventure game, with some RPG-style Barti-fights thrown into the mix. As Bartimaeus, you could change shape to suit the situation, and there could be a meter that shows the buildup of material ache that Bartimaeus had (it would go down by transforming). As for battles, in true RPG form, his magic would be in categories, using the book names (Detonation, Compression, Shield, Seal, Convultion, etc.). And, I dunno, good cutscenes (Ramuthra's appearence comes to mind)

And about the game... it's doable, something like Baldur's gate?

Baldur's Gate? Hell no. Bartimaeus would not work as an isometric party-based RPG.
You'd be looking more along the lines of Psychonauts, I'd guess. Might work as a Morrowind-style game, too.

But you would be limited into what you could transform into?

It could work that you can unlock creatures to transform into, not true to the book, but twould be easier.

Well, how 'bout you have a lot to transform into, but not a HUGE selection. Barti himself said that he does not like being earth-bound creatures, because Earth harms his essence, as a being of air and fire, whenever he comes into contact with it. I belive the quote was "Birds, good. Insects, good. Bats, okay. Things that run fast are fine. Tree dwellers are even better. Subterrenian things, not good. Moles, bad." So you'd normally be able to be all manner of flying things, insects, bats, birds, cheetahs, and monkeys, to start with. Then you'd be able to become Barti's supernatural forms. Smoke, to get into small places. The Gargoyle, for flight and fight. The minotaur, the Lion-warrior, all manner of things. But your selection wouldn't be infinite, 'cause of Barti's common sense. For example, he wouldn't want to be a mole or a pyramid of slime unless he had no other choice.

Another thing, all magic would take up "essence". Spells, levitation (without wings) and transformations, all take an exertion on Barti's part. So, you could have this big, multicolored, "essence meter". And it would go down with each magical exertion. However, staying in one form for a prolonged time would cause a gradual drain in essence (that "dull throb" of staying solid). Basically, you'd need all these limitations so somone can't all the time be going with Barti's powers. Battle system would be like Secret of Mana. The enemies and threats are there, they only attack when you get near them, and there are no "encounters", you'd fight them whenever they see you, and wherever you are. (seems more realistic)

Yeah. Either find a random gold amulet with a jade in on google image search, or image edit the amulet out from the UK cover of the Amulet or the Gate.

It would work fine with Baldur's look and engine. Not the system.

As for Ramutra's idea; I doubt it. We're looking at Medium Budget, Medium Imagination game; I'd say 5-10 Forms and Baldur's gate or Planescape style Spell System. Most of the game will be recycled.
