Burned at the steak? :D Damn right burning the steak is a crime against humanity...
I knew someone would see that as I read it... :D

They branded him a heretic after he published a book that showed both the geocentric and heliocentric models, though the geocentric was forced on him by the church (it's wrong, and the Earth's not flat ;) ).

Geocentric doesn't necessarily mean the world's flat, though Galileo knew the world was round.
Geocentric just means that you think the Earth is the center of the universe.

Let's take this slowly.

The shiny ball in the sky?

...It's the sun. The Earth, the planet we live on, revolves around the sun. The sun does not revolve around the earth.
Look, Queezle.

Nah, a crash course in astronomy is putting you in a rocket and firing you at the sun so you can get a nice pretty view of how the Earth is tiny and goes round the Sun and a good impression of just how bloody huge space is before you crash into the Sun and die.

Ah. A good reason to learn astronomy before that.

I think you would die in your ship long before you made contact with the sun. In fact, the ship probably never would make contact, because it would disolve and burn(maybe not in that particular order)long before you got 1 mile away from the sun. I think.

Your remains could still crash into the sun. I think.
Ew.

We'd stick a giant mirror in space a way ahead of you to deflect the sun's rays. By the time you're getting heated up by something other than radiated light from the sun you've technically hit it.

A giant mirror?

Why not just ake my ship out of mirror panels?

You can't look at the earth from space, much less the sun, the REFLECTION of the sun's rays off the clouds on earth alone would fry your eyes.

If you're flying towards the sun in a rocket, your eyes getting fried is the least of your problems.
Look, Queezle.

Because no mirror reflects absolutely EVERYTHING that hits it, and that tiny little bit will cook you too quickly. Of the tiny bit absorbed by the mirror, only a tiny bit is reradiated back at you, and only a tiny bit of that do you actually absorb, serving to cook you much more slowly. :)

Jane, it's not quite that bright. Sure, you can't look directly at the sun, but the reflection off the clouds or the moon or whatever won't damage them, it might just be a bit uncomfy. Sunglasses help.

You think I didn't know that? I said that to associate geocentric models of the Earth with flat models of the Earth to show how dumb the ideas are.

You can get blinded by the sun.
Anyway, like you would have known that the Earth wasn't the center of the universe if someone hadn't already discovered it.
Look, Queezle.

Methinks Jane is right, in Space, there's no Ozone layer to protect you. The Sun's rays are like 10000000 times stronger, or something.
