Oh, Im new to the forum, so please dont flame me over any lackings in knowledge. :new: :pac:
If I really wanted to flame you, I'd do so for a lack of punctuation or apostrophes, maybe, certainly not for a lack of knowledge. We are all here to share and learn.

Incidentally, welcome.

*horrified*, what do you have against Nathaniel???
Well, I think a happy ending for this particular series would be cheesie, so I guess it's the only way... but why couldn't Kitty have died instead of Nat? *cries* (They should add a cry emoticon on the side) Although I'm really glad Bart survived at least, though I like Nat better...
BTW, tubas are awesome instruments, I love how they can drown out all the other instruments...

Hey, I am a first timer too. I was really shocked Nat died. Esp after he turned good. It took me more than an hour to complete the last ten pages or so(& I am a very fast reader). I was just shaking and crying at the same time & rereading the same lines. And Nat after all gave Bartimaeus his last gift. He just SHOULD'NT have died!
I did the same thing, precisely.I mean, shaking and re-reading the lines-- "So much for your promises" and "I think he rather knew anyway".
I skipped my dinner that night & these lines kept nagging at for the next whole day but eventually I tried to see the brighter side of it -- BART'S ALIVE and That means we can be sure of having more of his actions and sarcasm in the near future.
:welcome: to the forum!

Hehe. I had skipped dinner that night too. I was really depressed that Nat died. But that is possibly the best ending to the series.

Heard of Ring of Solomon? It is a prequel to the trilogy.

As I was reading the book I noticed how Nathaniel started to admire Kitty, and started to realise he liked Bartimaeus as a friend. I was hoping before he died he would get a kiss or at least the Djinni to say he is his friend.

When Nathaniel said "Bartimaeus........ You have been a good servant" I knew what was gonna happen and I started to cry. He accepted his fate and in that way I believe he was more honer able that Ptolemy

And Nat lived.
I think the ending will not be as powerful as it is if Nat lived. There's so many words unsaid between Bartimaeus and Nathaniel, and the fact that until the end, they weren't able to show how much they value each other pretty much makes it all heartbreaking. And also, the true Nathaniel, that little boy behind the power-driven facade, wouldn't really want to go back to all those filthy stuff of politics.
I agree with a lot of people that the ending was great, but I didn't really rejoice about the fact that Nathaniel died. I went for "I thought it was okay..." since that was the closest. (I think)
I shall spread your vile essence across this hall like...um, like margarine. A very thick layer of it...
Sentynel wrote:None of the above. It was good, but it doesn't mean I think "Yay, Nat's finally dead!"
I feel the same way. Only the ending was not only good but great.

i put 'i would like it more if he hadn't died' . that said, i totally understand why it had to happen in regards to the plot. reading it again for the millionth time eight years after you first picked it up as a 13 year old its very obvious with the last ptolemy chapter that nat will die and it's poetic and needed.

so i wouldn't change it. that didn't stop my fourteen year old self crying for four days after i'd read it though. id never cried so much in my life. haha and i didn't pick it back up for another year cause i hated jonathan stroud for killing off nat. i would've done anything to change that end after i'd read it. i only noticed the correlation after reading it again. then i saw it was the perfect ending.
