Back on to Genetic Engineering please.

Before Gladstone throws it in the pit of Spam.

Danke.

Exactly. He's a model, he's too hot to be Nat/John Mandrake.

I love how Dansariki is ignored.

Bwahahahaha.

I can sense his anger rising....RUN! :gladstone:
I might post something on topic...

Eventually...

If he's lucky...

Johnny needs shorter hair tho. Haven't read PG over a year-and-a-half ago (...maybe) but it's a 'military crop,' right?

Please, everyone knows John seduced his way into Devereax's (sp?) heart and got the job. :P

The picture was taken btween Golem's Eye and Ptolemy's Gate. 'Cos PG was more of a N/K book, especially towards the end and they kill important members of the ship, so it should be disregarded for shipping purposes.

and can we not discriminate against the Pit of Spam? It's not as vile as you seem to think

It's just that I happen to like this topic, for some unkown reason.

OK, seeing as how ethics plays into most of this, what do people think about cloning?
It still counts as genetic engineering, just less actual engineering.
I perosnally wouldn't mind at all if it was used to bring back species that have gone extinct due to human activity, or those on the brink, like some tigers, leopards, and birds like the Cali. condor.

ON TOPIC
you were lucky Dansariki :P

But wouldn't they not be the same animal 100% (Fuzzy has very, very limited knowledge of cloning). Something about the DNA having to be fused with the egg of a similar animal?

The whole point of cloning is that it's an identical copy of the DNA. That said, the mitochondrial DNA is not the same, which accounts for a tiny percentage of the overall DNA (and is inherited directly from the mother in a non-cloned animal, rather than from the mother and father) but can have quite large effects on things like lifespan.
I have no problem with cloning as a concept, even of humans, but there are problems to be worked out before cloning is viable for purposes like bringing back extinct species - cloned animals tend to die of various nasty disorders at the moment... also, you need to find genetic material to clone something, and that's not necessarily as easy as Jurassic Park makes out.

And even Jurassic Park had to do five long years to create those buggers, possibly even more time to research about how they somewhat cloned the dinos. And there was quite a bit of money in that....
For those interested. Watch out for unsupported sentences
First animal to be cloned...sweet.
But human cloning is way off to the future...

The main problem is the vastly reduced lifespans, which complicates the ethical dimension even further.

And my salutations for the smooth loading I now experience. I am sure it was because of you guy's toil and cunning, wresting day and night with Betaboard's crappy script. Totally not a fluke thing, right?

Yes, yes indeed, Post. In fact, just remind me what I did, so I can do it to my account as well?

(Actually, it does seem to have improved a bit.. maybe gladstone badgering ZB support did achieve something after all...)

Wow.

Ok, I consider myself fairly knowledgable, but I'm completely in the dark about your mitachondrial thing, Sent.
Clone a sheep (who the flooping 'eck could tell the difference in the first place??), stick in the cow, comes out later.

Thats making it basic as possible.
Mitochodrial is maternal DNA, but if the embryo's only in the other animal to gestate, how does it absorb Mito DNA from the host animal if it's already fertilized?

Besides, if one manages to bring back an extinct animal, you'd have to have one helluva vaccine for it, otherwise modern diseases would just tear right through them.

Jurrasic Park was Hollywood, but for being Hollywood, most of it's science was correct,
Well, the majority, then. Most sounds a might bit strong.
