It's not shiny plastics; all you need to put is Antiliasing and Bum Maps.

And have you even played Undying? It's About ten times better than Half Life 2.

And no, Haven't played the original.

It helps to understand the HL2 story if you've played the original, although it isn't required.
I've played some of Undying, and I prefer HL2. Undying wasn't exactly my type of game.

AA just gets rid of sharp edges and as a side effect makes everything a bit blurry, which if anything makes it look more plastic. Bump mapping doesn't help. It still looks fake and plastic.

Not really, just the hand. Bum Maps sorts it out finely.

Undying is very, very Athmospheric horror Shooter with a very, very good Story line.

Yes, I know what Undying is like. Yes, it may be more atmospheric that HL2's horror sections, cos guess what? It's a dedicated horror game! HL2 does so much more.


Doom's graphics engine looks plasticky, whether or not you have bumps on (not that a game's graphics engine should need bump maps to look unplasticky. Except LEGO Star Wars, but then I'd be worried if it didn't look plasticky. Being LEGO). HL2's looks relatively realistic.

The way the story is delivered. It doesn't steal a style from graphic novels, books or movies, it has its own. The more you look around, the ore you find - like the ape/man/combine graffiti.
The control model is damn near perfect. It doesn't feel too fast or too slow. It's easy to get on and off ladders. Little bits of polish like that.
The vehicles are easy and fun to control (particularly the crane :D ).
It makes good use of the Havok physics. Puzzles like the crane, and the plank and concrete blocks, for example.

Far Cry wasn't bad, but the bloody great mutants kind of spoiled it a little.

Halo is crap. The story is awful, the gameplay is repetetive... it's better in 2D, and free! Halo Zero

I'm not kidding you. Halo is not tactical in any way, shape or form. If you think it's tactical, go play Operation Flashpoint or SWAT 3.
The eye candy does the job, but isn't exactly brilliant, and has system requirements to go with something that looks twice as good.
