Ptolemy's Gate
How do you guys feel about the book? Particularly the ending. Share your thoughts and feelings :mwamba:
If you want to know about me I think that Nat is really stupid and mean and he deserved to die. Barti is AWSOME! He is so egocentric! But I do think it was a great act for him to do that.... it mirroring Ptolemy and all..... I was so sad at the part where Ptolemy died......

I think that Nat was not stupid or mean, more a regular person. He might have been a bit more corrupt, but his moral compass had been etched in his head since he was five. If we look at ourselves we all deserve to die, in a way, because we have done many bad things wrong, if we want to go that far. Nat, in fact, was not truly mean. He was guilty and ended up repenting.

:pirate2: wow....very true! but i still think that he was a selfish jerk....but i LOVED the ending

PS: Happy birthday! how old are you?

We're all selfish. I think Bartimaeus was the most selfish of all the characters, well the "good" ones, but he like all of them had reasons.

Bartimaues was selfish but amusing while being selfish.

Yes.

That's why most people like him better than Nat.

I actually considered Nathaniel to be the main character in the trilogy, despite the actual NAME of the trilogy.

But that's just me. I'll come up with a brilliant dissertation about this in Psych one day, but for now, you'll just have to use your imagination as to why :P It's possible that this is because Nathaniel had more emotional whatsitcalled than Bartimaeus, at least until the 2.5/3rd book.

Development?

I thought so too and I think post people on the fourm consider Nat the main character.

Ya u r right. Nat is'nt different from most of us, is he? Agree he was power- centred, cruel to his slaves, highly proud of himself & his achievements, very conceited etc etc. but that's how all magicians were. We know Bart says Nat becomes more Mandrake-like with the advancing of age but he was better than most magicians for a start. Being in bad company surely affected his choices. Otherwise I am sure he would have been as good as he was in the ending.................And don't forget we did have an insight of Nat's soft corner for Bart. When Kitty showed him his mistakes, he changed right? I feel he deserved to live.

<@Ximenez> Sentynel: But i have a life? No. Qed.
He wasn't mean, he had just been corrupt by the power of bieng a magicain. Particularly one w/ his rep . . . thanks to Barti. :D
Ok, I re-read the last 3 chapters this afternoon, and I have to say this: I understand why people are into N/K!!!!!

!!!!

I ship both ways now. </hyper post>
Nothing to see here, move along.

I think that Nathanial deserved to live. I really liked his charater. He was second only to Bart. Actually, I don't really understand why people blame him. He only made a few careless mistakes, trying to follow his hero Gladstone, and they led to consequences. We all make careless mistakes, they just don't neccesarily lead to consuquences.
Look, Queezle.

Why?

(Not to be mean...I like some pretty weird characters myself. Heh, heh...But you've got to love Queezle.)
Look, Queezle.
:new: :leader: ;) umm...hi peoples, i think that jon should write a fourth book, i think that it should be about how jane farrar takes over the goverment, and tries to kill kitty and the goverment, with new more powerful wolves meanwhile.... Nathaniel is still alive, and he's forgotten who he is, until he meets bartimause again, who's been summond by a diffrent master. then nat gets back the staff and goes against farrar at the end of the fourth book. i really like'd the nat, at the secound book he began to become corrupt, but he had to to servive i think that nat was the mane chartector to, and i think kitty always respected nat. wow....i said alot of crap..and whos qeezle!!!m plus nat and bart tie, they were really awsome when bart was in nat.

Yes! Amazing! Perfect solution! Write to Mr. Stroud, NOW.

I already said. Queezle is the amazing beautiful djinni in Golem's Eye that was sacrificed but didn't really die and will be reincarnated!
Look, Queezle.
